Reserving review for post-rental synopsis. What I can say now, is that many of the negative reviews have merit. If renting from IND, read the reviews first! I personally experienced many of the same issues. In my one and only experience renting from Hertz at IND. As it stands now, mid-rental, I am far from impressed. Also, their "Gold standard" claim is a giant leap from the cleanliness I received. Dropped off vehicle to attendant at 8:50am, after taking to carwash, cleaning, & refuelling... Now we will see if the reviews related to undue cleaning fees, gas fees, & the like are true. Added photo of instrument cluster post rental to prove mileage and fuel state.
Do not rent from Hertz!!! The battery on our rental died when we were in Indianapolis, which is not great but things happen. We got a jump start and were able to get to the Indianapolis airport Hertz to exchange the vehicle. We were charged $9.99 a gallon for not returning the vehicle with a full tank. I explained to the attendant a woman named Queen that I can't possibly refuel without shutting the car off and not being able to start it again. She told me there would be a charge as "the car isn't ours, it belongs to the location you rented it from. Maybe you can see if they'll waive the fee for you." Of course with a dismissive attitude and she refused to waive it. We rented from another Hertz airport location so that makes zero sense, Hertz is Hertz. I tried calling customer service several times and had a very hard time getting a human to speak to. I finally had to use the roadside assistance option to get someone. They told me they couldn't waive the fee as it didn't hit our credit card yet, but that they'd note our account so it would be waived when we returned the new vehicle. We returned the new vehicle and the manager told us they could not waive the fee and offered me $100 my next rental. He also told us there were no notes on our account to waive the fee. What a joke. He then told me that Indianapolis could waive the fee and that he'd reach out to them and get back to me. Of course he never did. I again called customer service several times and finally got someone who waived the fee. This shouldn't have been charged to begin with and been so difficult to address. Avoid Hertz at all costs!!
The employees at this location are lazy and rude. My first time getting a car at this location, as I was checking out at the exit booth, the person who was helping me was having a full personal conversation on the phone and acted irritated that she had to help me. I had a hard time answering her questions because she was carrying on a personal conversation on her earpiece. The second time I had a horrible experience was tonight, I had a reservation and my plane arrived on time, and when I got down there to get my car, I was stopped by to employees and told that their manager told them that no more cars could leave the lot tonight because they had to be cars for customers tomorrow and there were only 7 in the lot. I had a reservation, and I received an email from Hertz while I was on the plane, confirming my reservation. I didn’t waste too much time arguing with these people because it was so late at night and I needed to get to my hotel safely. Unfortunately, this is a business trip so I am going to a lot of time shuffling everything around to accommodate for not having a car. They told me that I could come by the next morning to get a car, but at this rate, I don’t trust that they would have a car available for me. What time I am in Indianapolis for my next business trip, I will not be using this Hertz location.
By far one of the worse rental experience Ive ever had. I was returning my rental and was waiting for a hertz attendant to just confirm the charges. I’m very upset I did not get her name. She was very rude from the start, as if I was a bother. Mind you there was no other customers and she was just sitting in a car. I waited about 5 mins before she walked over to take care of me. While returning she explained my rental would be the same amount I was quoted when I picked it up. She told me she couldn’t check and see which I thought was strange because anytime I rented and returned, I was told it would be sent to my email and they can actually see the charged. But the Jokes on me when I got onto the airplane my receipt reflected an additional $500 charge. On my receipt it said outside wash for $500 when I called the customer service. I was told it was a smoking fee. When I first picked up the rental smelled like smoke and I was ensured I wouldn’t have an issue nothing needed to be documented. False ! They needed to make note of that. The lady who closed out my rental I feel like as someone representing a company you shouldn’t lie in customer faces especially when they rent all the time. It’s the holidays and an attitude and someone not doing their job is uncalled for. Whole experience was just horrible. Thankfully after calling customer service a few times the $500 was refunded. However the attendants need to know how to actually communicate and at least do their jobs correctly.
Bad location if your flight comes in late. Confirmation says open until 1am, but they close at 11pm. Our flight was delayed coming in and most rental locations stay open until you arrive on a prepaid reservation but not Hertz. Avis was open and they told me they left at 11pm sharp. So, needed to stay near the airport to get our car the next day. Used Microtel, they were great and even came to pick us up at the airport on the courtesy shuttle, then took us back to the airport the next day, free! Free breakfast too. Now, the security deposit of $200 is still locked up on my credit card. They said it was released 24 hours after the return but no, its 7 days after returning the vehicle and the hold is still on. Hertz can't help, I called 3x, my credit card company is opening an investigation as fraud. What a nightmare the whole experience was and we will not be using Hertz anymore. They used to be our go-to for car rentals but now 2 bad experiences inside 2 months is not acceptable. Sorry Hertz, you are losing long term customers.
Normally i'm a big fan of Hertz, however this time I did not have a great experience. We had to switch cars multiple times do to unclean interiors. Like having jam and slime on the front seats unclean. It was beyond frustrating to switch cars multiple times. The agent in the booth located in the garage was very helpful and apologetic, this rating does not reflect her but rather the ones that clean the cars.
You guys need to put a disclaimer on your website about not accepting Chime. Your website allowed me to use my Chime CC to pay for the reservation. I drove an hour out of my way and paid for parking at airport. Now I can’t get a rental anywhere bc I have to wait 1-3 business days for my funds to return. Terrible business move declining Chime. That’s gonna cost you a lot of business. Chime is everywhere now the most commonly used cards I existence
Fast service and kind people working behind the desk. Make sure to check the cleanliness of your car. Mine looked as if someone had previously been living in it. It was in need of a deep steam clean and shampooing. Stains overed the seats and the smell was off putting.
Do not rent from Hertz here. They added additional insurance to my reservation after I stated that I do not want any add ons. My AMEX has it covered so what’s the point. It doubled the cost of the rental. They also denied refund after contacting… Never again
Exceptionally incompetent staffing. Exceptionally! After catching Hertz over-charging me for a three day rental to them...it was 10 days, the process to correct THEIR error has taken more than four hours of my time to resolve. No acknowledgement of THEIR wrongdoing has been provided. The twice-promised credit never materialized. Fortunately, my credit card provider is reducing THEIR charges - only after more time lost in this process. If you choose Hertz in Indy, do so with this experience in mind. By the way, the start of the rental was equally challenged. Also, I am very curious as to what the staff did with the vehicle during the additional week that it was billed to me. If I am with the Hertz audit team, I would want to know as well. Update... 11 months later and 2344 views of this post. What is that, about 200 views per month? Hey Hertz @ Indy - whats the true cost of disregarding customer satisfaction? Please see my review of Alamo in the same airport. Yes, it is actually possible to achieve positive customer feedback at Indy - so location is not the unique variable in this equation.
