Hooper saved my life! I went to hooper five times since the summer of 2021. Now I'm living Ina Oxford house, I have no desire to drink & I finally love my life! The food is great, the staff is extremely kind, you'll make life long freinds, it's relaxing you watch lots of movies, sleep, eat, soda machine, morning coffee, snacks / and tv room you can access 24/7. Giant showers and bathroom you can access 24/7..Me & a few of the ladies did yoga twice a day with the DVDs and yoga Matt they have there. There are board games & lots of pictures you can color. The first time is always the hardest because you dont know what to expect so some people panic & leave the second day . They don't force you to take any medication but they have everything you need to help you detox including nicotine gum, anxiety meds, Advil, nausea meds ect. It's not at all like your probably expecting if you've never been to a detox. It's super relaxing & they even have acupuncture. I recommend bringing a journal & a book or two. But they have books/colored pencils/DVDs ECT..& paper of you need it. Like i said I have several friends I've made that are sober now from both drugs & alcohol. I only wish I had gone sooner. But it's never too late to begin a new life. They help you get into housing, residential, outpatient ect. Thank God for hooper & their wonderful staff! Thank you so much!
Best thing I ever did for myself. Make sure you get a doctors referral so your intake is quicker and secured.
I couldn't say anything negative about Hooper, only very very positive things. The staff, nurses and attention they give, is above and beyond. It's the people at Hooper that make the beginning of recovery possible. I can't say enough. Oh, and the food is really good too. The space is safe and very clean. Thank you all, truly. I've been through this many times and always feel nervous going in, but here I felt cared for and comfortable immediately. If you're struggling and need detox go to Hooper!
I dropped off a loved one at 6am for a morning evaluation and possible admission. Cell phones are not allowed so I held it. Terrible mistake. I can’t find them, I haven’t heard from them and the front desk cites HIPAA to decline passing a request that whoever was admitted reach out to family. Hooper staff say I can file a missing person report in 72 hours but short of a court order they cannot confirm a person’s admission. Hooper staff also stated that if someone isn’t able to get a spot in the morning, they aren’t allowed in the lobby to call a ride and they are also not allowed to stand near or across the building… I’m crying right now… I feel like this is the worst mistake I ever made.
Wow! Where do I start. I am a recovering addict that has been a frequent flyer at Hooper Detox 9 times and everytime I would drag my weary opiod sick shell of a person thru their doors and they treated me like an actual person of substance. Knowing my spirit was broken they believed in me everytime and I would be so ashamed everytime that I needed to come back but they would never be angry or treat me indifferent. The team and I mean"TEAM" would literally build me up and show how to put the pieces in place so that I could go on to reach goals like my 2 year b-day recently. So remember when you grace the doors of that special place remember that inside those walls is where it starts. . . . The spirit that was once snuffed out and had no hope will one day change lives too. Ask the employees at Hooper.
This place is absolutely amazing! Detox was extremely relaxing and helpful. After detox I was able to do outpatient through them while trying to find a rehab facility to go into and they definitely are the best! I wouldn’t choose to go anywhere else. I am now 47 days clean and 5 weeks into the outpatient program! I wouldn’t have made it this far without them. It doesn’t seem like a very long time but it absolutely a start to a amazing and successful life!
It’s a free rehab, but you will hear more complaining here than anywhere else in your life. Also for some reason they allow the same patient control who watches what on the TV, and often they have the mental capacity of a child for example, Harry Potter movies are the norm. Or Kevin Smith “comedies.” Also for some reason some people are allowed if you consider it an advantage to stay there for weeks. There will be people who will be there when you arrive, and they’re still there when you leave. Frankly I’m not sure how or why they get more time there than others, I’ve just always noticed it. I asked one guy why he was able to stay there for so long, he said he was “waiting for a bed to open up somewhere else.” But everyone knows there’s a shortage of beds at other places. Why do they let a select few wait it out at Hooper, meanwhile kick the rest back out to the streets? Favoritism specifically from the counselors is my guess. Unfortunately I’ve never really clicked with any of my counselors, who just see as another random client. Also be careful of the food. I would advise eating as less of it as possible. Last time I was there someone got COVID they wouldn’t say who, so they kicked a bunch of us out because we had “contact” with them. Anyway I’m pretty sure I did get COVID. Well at least they gave me a free ride home and unfortunately COVID too. All in all it’s a free detox. But like I said, the complaining is out of this world.
Greetings to y'all I was referred here by the VA nurse in Portland and I was at first happy or relieved. However, I found that for whatever reason my WA state insurance does not comply with Oregon and therefore, I cannot seek long-term or residential treatment from Oregon anymore. First day of check in was very chaotic and they didn't seem to adhere to veteran's disability at all. Then, they'd have you stripped down and with no real explanation, for you to shower in a unisex shower where I could hear the lady and male giggling about something. In essence, they just see me as another addict and not someone who has underlying issues. The staff were alright but there were male staff in and out as well as the beds were definitely not placed 6 ft distanced. I am not at all used to loud and sudden noises and this made my PTSD worsened. The meds or concunctions of drugs were Librium, Benzo and gabapentin. This I was a bit grateful since I have do have arthritis pain and gabapentin seemed to help. The shift nurses are alright and the one that was kinder to me was named Chris. The head staff would often just joke around and possibly seeing us as less than nothing so they shared many personal things and chit chat. Also, the phone did and did not work at times and it frustrated many of us since communication is crucial since many of us still have emails and family to deal with. Overall, I left on the 14th. I could not take the vague answers and I didn't understand why the residential treatment wouldn't accept WA State insurance since I don't have OHP. It was a bit sad since I have PTSD and a disabled veteran from the Marine Corps and I am appalled that they wouldn't work something out for me.
When family members call to ask if someone they brought there is still at their location because they're worried for their safety they should at least be told yes or no. NOT yelled at and ignored. We had a family member miss calls and since then we have not heard from her, she has an 11 year old son and we're all worried but have NO idea where she's at. She was emitted intoxicated and does not have a majority of our numbers. This place is terrible. They don't even tell the family if she has left or not, blood family. She has a child for Christ sakes. Telephone operator is just disgusting.
They were the ONLY place to help me get my brother immediate help with opiod detox. They were so very nice and helpful. True life savers. The whole staff were my heroes , but especially Ryan.
