While visiting the Wharf, we came upon Jesse’s completely by accident. We are glad that we did! We quickly figured out this had to be the happening spot on the Wharf because it was packed. You purchase fresh fish on one side we paid about $ 69 for lb of shrimp and 2-3 bunches of giant crab legs. You get a complimentary cook card at checkout upon request and stroll over to the other side to have whatever you purchased steamed on the spot! The other side also had food already steamed sitting out but for us fresh and cooked was the way to go. It was crazy and quite busy but, once we observed the process and got a cooks attention, they took the bag and they steam and season whatever you give them. I felt so bad for them because they were so busy with only 2 cooks Saturday afternoon. We ordered and had steamed shrimp and 2-3 bundles of huge crab legs. We found some stairs in the shade cracking crab legs and eating with our hands using the claws as forks to get the meat out I am sure we were quite a sight for all to see but everyone was doing the same thing. Pretty neat and fun experience. We really enjoyed our find.
The whole seafood store was built on a ship! The good thing is they have many different choices of fresh and delicious seafood. But I hope they could have more clear signs here because you might not know if it’s the correct lane you’re waiting. Fresh oyster, lobster, crabs are all different lanes. Steam crabs are in the same lane with fresh crabs.
If I lived anywhere near the wharf in Washington DC, I would definitely come here for all of my seafood shopping. Amazing selection of obviously fresh seafood. Additionally the fishmongers there are delightful and super willing to help you with your selections.
We get the streamed crab here. Crabs are fresh. It takes about 35 -45 minutes for steaming. It depends on how busy they are. The also sell all kinds of seafood such as fish, clam, shrimp etc. The parking is a bit difficult on the weekend.
Small crabs. They give you old black crabs. Called in half dozen Medium females. This is there Medium females. $50/half dozen female. Don’t go here. Very disappointed
Wow!!!!! Just Wow! What a selection! I had nowhere to cook anything, so I grabbed a cooked Maine Lobster and zipped back to my hotel on my scooter. Just tore it apart by hand and it was absolutely delicious!!!! Best money spent today!!!
Wanted to try after hearing about the fresh steam seafood servedyes we love seafood Well besides it being crazy busy, no where to park,a bit overwhelming and smelly. It was too overwhelming to fight the crowd to order anything other than shrimp, especially since it was my first time, I already had to yell loud enough to take over and get someone to serve me. I got 3/4 pound of medium shrimp with seasoning. Hopefully next time I can enjoy the Wharf and more seafood w/o the threatening of rain clouds and 1 child complaining about the smell. Walked back to car to eat… it was delicious
A long, and now the lone, standing DC Wharf institution for fresh seafood of all kinds: fish, crabs, shrimp, & more. Jessie Taylor will steam & spice your crab on sight for you. Pro tip: call ahead to place your order & lessen your wait / pick up time.
Fresh and delicious, but we bought six crab and after they cooked and putted in the bag, we found only five crabs when we left there
Be aware, Jassie Taylor sea food is price gouging. I used to come to the Wharf fish market a lot and liked this place. But I am so disappointed to see dishonest fresh crab seller, Jessie Taylor, to jack up price taking advantage of large number of people coming to DC Jazz Festival at the Wharf and the lack of competition Captain White, you are missed, the market is not a free market without competition. Today is the second day of the Jazz Festival at the wharf and it is the Labor day weekend. I came to Jassie Taylor's booth closer to 12pm. The price for large female crab was $32 a dozen and I took a picture of it. The Jazz festival starts at 2pm and people are starting to pour to the wharf. I decided to look around first then buy crab on my way home. I came to the booth again at 1:30pm, only to find out the price for large female crab has jacked up to $52 a dozen from $32, a 63% increase. I was also told it was the SECOND price increase in the past 2 hours. It was a shame for Jassie Taylor to take advantage of American people and engage in this unfair and deceptive price gouging activity.
