John's is my go to place for fishing. Whether its crabbing , shrimping, salmon, halibut, lincod, trout, they not only have the right gear but the knowledge to get you on the fish. Competitively priced and if you can't get to the store, they'll ship most orders for free. Their website is a wealth of knowledge and his book is a Northwest fishing must have.

My wife and I walked into John's store for the first time on a relatively quiet Saturday morning and was greeted with a very friendly "Hi! I'm John. How are ya doin'?" We explained that we were eager to learn all about trolling for salmon in the Puget Sound and wanted his advice on the gear that we'd need for the job. John took his time to explain where we would find the Fish and Wildlife rules for the areas we would be fishing, the types of fish that could be caught and the gear we would need to get the job done. At no time did he pressure us into buying anything and certainly didn't push the most expensive products in the store. This means a lot to me as a consumer. His knowledge is extensive and he is so generous with it. I dare say that anyone who has a mind to bargain shop will indeed find better prices say, online. But for a keen fisher who wants up to the minute, inside scoop on what's happening in our waters, this store is invaluable and a real benefit to the community. Yes, I will be back for sure ...and I live in Port Townsend!

Just bought 25 #SMI crab pots from these guys at great price will be back to get more gear shortly very knowledgeable and helpful with everything.

Everyone here is beyond helpful, kind and knowledgeable!! They will get you everything you need, tell you how to use it and where to go. This is a fishermans secret that everyone should know about! Will never go anywhere else.
