So, out of the blue, my tastebuds decided that it wanted some Johnny Ray's! I haven't been to Johnny Ray's in so long that I can't remember the last time I been there. Even so, after such a long time, Johnny Ray's is still on point! I had the combination Tripper Decker sandwich plate with pork and beef and three sides! Yes three sides! The sides were small, but more than enough for a filling meal! The restaurant is huge and they have a nice out door patio located on the side of the building. It's oddly located in a corner out of the way! So sometimes out of sight, means out of mind! But if after reading this review, you are reminded that it's time to check them out again, please do so! It'll be worth it!
REALLY RECOMMEND to try this BBQ spot. Even when it was snowing and every other restaurant was shut down due to the snow storm, Johnny Ray’s did not let that stop them from serving their faithful customer and coming up ones such my family and myself. They have a lot of meats to choose from and the best sides to choose from. I would give them a chance and try their BBQ
Great local place with good bbq , fries , pies and all kinds of great treats. There’s always great service and greet atmosphere. Today there was social distancing and respect for the Covid situation. My wife had the Sloppy John and I had the bbq Philly on Texas toast.
This is so delicious! The staff is really friendly. They usually have a good bit of people when I go with my husband. You get more than you pay for. I always have enough for lunch the next day. The chicken is juicy and you don't have to fight to get the rib meat off the bones. It's family friendly. Music is played in the background...noticable enough to sing along, but soft enough to have a conversation without having to raise you voice above normal level. They have multiple TVs for sports and advertising. I will be going back soon!
We purchase to rib and chicken combination plates, one dark meat and one white meat. They have a very nice variety of sides but the portions are a little small. Overall the food is very good, the sauce is a little vinegary but still pretty good.
Sorry it's been awhile since I've last posted a review, been busy. Ok so the staff was really cool, and the place was nice. Now for the food I thought that they did a ok job with room to improve. The fried pickles was 2% fried, I mean come on they barely had any batter on them. Overall I'll try them again next time I'm in Birmingham AL.
It was edible. That is the nicest thing I can really say. Staff was very unfriendly and curt. Pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches to go. Meat was very dry and bland. Their BBQ sauce is liquid vinegar and some spices. Fries have nothing on them and are under cooked. Banana pie was meh. Should have gone somewhere else, so should you.
Have been eating at this location since 1991. I now eat here about once a year when in town. Not as good as I remember from back then but still delicious. I had the open face pork with onion rings. Good service too!Dine in: Yes
Descent food. The chicken wasn't hot. The pie was great, the sweet tea is not outstanding but it's better than most. Christina gave very good service.
I love the last Johnny Ray's on the planet and eat there whenever my travels take me by. Food was outstanding as usual and their BBQ sauce is the best. My server, Christina is awesome. Very attentive and she made feel at home. Whatever you do, please don't close down my favorite BBQ house. There's none better!
