Completely dissatisfied with the one and only "routine" visit my wife made. She needed to see Dr. Datu to get a PCP referral before being allowed to see a specialist. We tried to see positive in this for a check-up as it had been at least a couple years since she saw a doctor; we no longer feel that why. Here's what happened: Having meeting with my wife, Dr. Datu told her "now go down the hall" for the tests. After confirming that this was routine, my wife went to take the test. Now with a $1k bill insurance first covered just under 1/2 and then 3/4, we learned that these were 'diagnostic' test that NHP requires us to pay a co-insurance on. I spent 6 months talking to various offices - Dr. Datu's, the BIDMC lab she sent my wife to, and NHP - and no one was willing to take responsibility for clearly explaining what was going on at the time to my wife. I'm pissed that BIDMC is billing us and has wasted my dozen of hours of my time, sending me in circles among the 3 organizations and changing their advice after every few weeks. To anyone reading this, make sure you clarify 'preventative' and 'diagnostic' because routine means nothing for billing. 'Diagnostic' might cost you via co-insurance based on your plan.
