Story

JR’s was founded in Houston TX in the mid-70’s, where true Texas barbecue techniques and recipes were developed and perfected. Part of the family moved to Albuquerque, NM in the late 1980s, where the first JR’s BBQ restaurant was opened in the SE part of town on Gibson Blvd, just West of Louisiana Blvd. This location has since been a favorite of employees and servicemen and women on Kirtland Air Force Base and Sandia National Laboratories, as well as hospitals, other business and residents down the Gibson corridor. The Gibson location continues to serve customers during lunch hours (10:30 am – 2:00 pm) Monday – Thursday, and is open for lunch and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays (10:30 am – 8:00 pm).

Looking to provide great BBQ at a great value to the NE Heights, JR’s Ranch House was opened as a spin-off of the original JR’s BBQ restaurants. We officially opened for business on January 26, 2015. Located on the corner of Brentwood Hills and Juan Tabo NE, barbeque lovers now have another great locations to satisfy that barbecue craving as well as enjoy delicious down-home cooking. The Juan Tabo location will soon have drive-through ordering and pickup available, for quick, on-the-go barbecue.

JR’s also caters! No matter how big or how small the event, we can can accommodate. We prepare simple to-go packs for small groups or events, and provide full service, on-site catering for larger groups. There is no group too large!
