Kapnos Taverna is a great tapas restaurant with fun food options and a cool environment. I easily made a reservation on Opentable. Opentable gives you the option of a high-top or standard seating but I don't believe the hostess gets that information since she didn't seem to know. We started at the bar since they have Happy Hour everyday. The drinks are great and the small bites were an appropriate warm-up to dinner. The unique dinner options were delicious and the atmosphere is awesome. The service was really quick and polite but our primary waitress wasn't really seen much after we chose to stick with water. Still a great experience and I would highly recommend for a date night or just fun dinner experience. Photos are: melitzanosalata, makaronia, marinated beef souvlaki and crispy squash blossoms
First time trying a real Greek restaurant, and I was blown away. Our server Olesia was kind and had great recommendations. I really loved the spreads and the sea food, which were all well plated. Also got the "coffee and donuts," which was great dessert. Lovely atmosphere, and will definitely will be coming back when I am back in town.
Good service, good food, and good atmosphere. I came here with my friend for brunch. Man everything on their menu uses some form of dairy in them. Like cheese, or butter, or cream. Fortunately, our waiter and the manager worked around the menu items and got me a gyro platter with no dairy. This gyro was pretty good. It was juicy, had flavor, and I loved the texture of everything. I also added hot sauce to it was it spruced it up even more. Our waiter and the manager kept checking in on us to make sure we were ok. This is quite a popular place for brunch on the weekends. Only reason why I'm not giving 5 stars was because it felt like they kept trying to rake more money out of us. They kept pushing for us to order their all-you-can-eat instead of a-la-carte. My friend doesn't eat too much and I couldn't eat like 95% of the menu items due to my allergy so it wouldn't make sense for me. Other than that I enjoyed the food and service.
This Greek/Mediterranean themed restaurant is located with "The Hotel" with an entrance from inside the hotel as well as outside. There's a parking garage behind the hotel and the restaurant will validate your parking ticket for 2 hours of free parking. I had the Mixed Green Salad with lots of apples and radishes and field greens, but it was just not as flavorful as I thought it was going to be. The lemon vinaigrette dressing was salty, and a pretty measly size salad for $12. The ambiance was nice, and the service was good. They have a nice outdoor sidewalk patio for when the weather is nice. Since Kapnos Taverna is a Greek/Mediterranean themed restaurant, I'm not going to ding them too hard since the only thing I could judge them on was a salad. I just don't think that would be fair.
We had a great dinner at this place. Had no reservations, but were able to be seated immediately as we arrived about 545pm on a Friday night. The waiter---Dave---was awesome. He had great suggestions for drinks and advice about the food. We had the Horta, a surprisingly delicious combination of chard, lemon, dill, tomatoes and other spices. The grilled octopus was nicely combined with a sauce and was tender, and our spit-roasted lamb was good as well. We had the melitzanosalata dip with flatbread to round it off.The portion sizes were controlled, and for the price I can see why some might complain, given the usual habit of Greek restaurants serving inexpensive large dishes of food. But the quality of the food and the service was great, and these things were worth the price to us.
Delicious Greek food. Lots of choices for all types of experienced and inexperienced eaters to Greek food. While the prices are a bit high, the quality of the food is legitimate and the portions are good for two people to share. Attentive, yet not overly intrusive wait staff too!
This restaurant is far from good. The chicken was undercooked, and saying that it was under seasoned would be a compliment. The veggies were okay at best. Very disappointed for a $50 lunch. We will not be going back.
I accidentally came when the kitchen was closing for happy hour but my waiter made sure I was served, and it was delicious! This is the koriotiki salad with salmon, best I've had other than my mom's for sure
Pretty good restaurant in the ballston area! They have very good selection of mezze and entrees. Place is neat and service is good! Many vegetarian options available beside seafood that they recommend.
The recent DC Restaurant Week also included some places for brunch. We tried this Greek spot near Ballston for the 1st time. All of the dishes were delicious. Photo shows coffee waffles and baklava French toast. The restaurant was full and that overwhelmed the service. At least, they were apologetic about the mistakes of bringing the wrong dishes to our table. We still want to go back another time to try the rest of the brunch menu with special mimosas.
