I'd like to give this place more of a 3.75. I went with a friend who was on a quest for the perfect tenderloin. It had to be thick & have a perfectly proportioned amount of breading to meat. She ordered the tenderloin with onion rings. We were sitting outside and there was a divine smell of smoked pork. There weren't any smoked pork items on the menu. I asked about it and the waitress told me she had completely forgotten they had cooked pork as well as brisket and there were pulled pork sandwiches. I had been looking at their loaded nachos that could be ordered with brisket and asked if they could be served with pork. I ate so many smokey nachos in Memphis that just the memory makes me happy. The waitress agreed to make my nachos with pork and brought our food out. Everything was as ordered but I should have asked more about the nachos. Apparently, according to my dining companion, nachos are normally served with this gooey nacho cheese sauce. It was a shock to me. I remember my southern nachos where the chips were laid out in a thin layer and sprinkled with a blend of smoked cheeses then popped into a broiler to melt. Hunks of pulled pork were added on and BBQ sauce and any traditional toppings you wanted came on the side. The nachos I received were a far cry from that. The pulled pork that was on them was good but had a bit too much sweet sauce or rub. Again though, this was my fault for not asking questions. My friend said her tenderloin was appropriately thick and good but it lacked flavor in the meat and the texture of the breading was too consistent. She grew up in southeastern Iowa and the sandwiches she ate were from pork sourced from local farmers so the meat had more flavor. They were hand breaded with bread crumbs and crushed saltiness. Good luck finding that these days unless you can find a small restaurant in the country. She thought her onion rings were just okay but I thought they were great. I like thin batter and real slices of onions and these definitely fit the bill. The service was good and the waitress was very nice. When you walk in though, it is definitely a bar first & foremost. When we walked in at lunch time, you would be hard pressed to guess the time from the dim interior. We sat outside though on a small but cute patio so the interior was irrelevant.
This place lives up to all of the hype and then some! Ordered the Nipper Snapper burger with onion rings... Stellar! The lady ordered the casino burger with fries and the classic Kelly mayo... Absolutely killer! Not to mention Jeff the owner going around to every table making sure every customer has a good experience. And before you go, two brownies on the house! What's not to like? Do yourself a favor: stop at Kelly's Little Nipper.
We’ve been going to Kelly’s for probably 6 years now. Hardly ever disappointed! I recommend this place all the time if you want live music, great food, cold drinks and a great atmosphere to be in! You’ll always feel welcomed!
Incredible food, especially the little brownies that they brought out at the end. The owner and waitstaff were really friendly and made us feel welcome. I had the “nipper snapper” burger, which was really good and my partner had the 1 pound sausage sandwich. Neither of us are big drinkers, but it didn’t matter because the food was such good quality. We had a great time!
Giving it a 5 stars because the food & service were good. It just wasn't what I was looking for at the time, so I might deduct a little. Most people aren't as picky as me! Lol
Awesome food, everything I was hoping for. Nachos are incredible, the burger was big and delicious, and the onion rings are definitely the best I've found in town. Will be making this a regular thing. The place itself has a good vibe, the staff were friendly, and again, the food was all that and then some.
Staff and patrons were super friendly. Come hungry because the burgers are big! Wait time was short compared to most which was shocking since it was packed. Dinner even came with a mini brownie dessert. Live music was awesome! Absolutely an awesome place off the beaten path. Parking: Parking lot was easy to find.
It is a very small bar that's easy to miss. However, it's my go-to for a delicious Italian sausage sandwich and onion rings! The food is classic bar food, and the atmosphere is a mix of cultures. There is a free pool table on Sundays and a couple of slot machines that pay out tickets for food or drink. In the warmer months, they have live bands! It's a neat little hole in the wall bar with friendly bar staff.
Great place to grab a bite! Best tenderloin in the city, in my honest opinion. Had tried a Nipper Snapper the other day, 11/10 would recommend! Absolutely best bar service I've had in some time!Food: 5/5
