Lake Macbride State Park

Lake Macbride is a large Iowa State Park in Eastern Iowa. The park is well-maintained and offers nice scenery even if you are only driving through. There are several fishing areas and boat docks to access several areas of the Iowa River and large lakes which part of the park are as well. There is also a Lake Macbride Golf Course. The park offers multiple walking trails and camping areas throughout the park. There is a public beach and swimming area. Coralville dam is in this area and offers a unique place to visit as well. The park is generally clean and well maintained. Public areas often include large parking lots and bathroom facilities.

Absolutely love this park and especially all of the trails & opportunities to learn and explore, fish, swim, picnic, photograph, host a gathering at one of the shelters, boating, snowshoe, camp, learn about wildlife (you've GOT to visit the Raptor Center!), the list continues! The park ranger, Ron, is wonderful to work with and the staff truly care about the earth and genuinely welcome respectful park visitors. Cautionary Note: while it poses a fun, unique challenge, the Field Campus Trail on the south side of the park (beginning just past the Spillway & ends at Angler's Point Rd), currently contains many exposed roots (as many trails often do) that pose quite a tripping/fall risk. Hopefully, under the guidance of the park staff, we (Thorsday Trail Club & Friends), can work together this Spring to cover/rebury as many of these hazards as possible, and figure out ways to keep especially this trail from eroding and washing out as much in the future, thus helping to preserve its integrity and the beauty for us to continue to enjoy and appreciate.

This is a beautiful lake for kayaking. Several launch sites plus rentals. Great views!
