Didn’t live up to the hype. Food was not great - fried rice and pho were both too salty and no other flavors, portions were small for the price, the chocolate lava cake was prepackaged type that was unevenly microwaved. Only the spring rolls and tapioca dessert were decent but not much better tasting. Presentation did look food, but it wasn’t a satisfying meal. The place wasn’t very comfortable as they seated our party on a table that was too small. On the plus side, service was excellent.
Great food, ambience, creative cocktails and great services. My boss raved about this place all day and you run the risk of the over-sell when doing so but he was right. The food was very good. I'll visit the Chicago location next. I did feel a bit under dressed. I just wouldn't go too casual.
Had a very nice lunch here. Went with the two-course prix fixe menu which seemed like a good value at $29. Had the green tea crepe and the Vietnamese coffee for dessert, both were delicious.
Really nice menu. I had the shrimp curry and it was soooo good! There was a large party next to me of 10 people and I think they covered the entire menu and everyone was happy with their choice. Nice romantic atmosphere, I love these old New York restaurants with the classic designs and I loved the music. Attentive service.
Fancy vietnamese restaurant: ordered classic pho, vegi crispy spring roll, lotus salad, shrimp shumai, mango tea, and coffee ice cream
I think the quality of the cooking did not meet the expensive cost of the meal. If this were a neighborhood Vietnamese restaurant, this would have easily been a 5 out of 5. The appetizer tasting selection was a nice variety of flavors. However, three out of the six dishes were fried. More variety in techniques would have been nice here. The short rib was delicious and fell off the bone. The chicken skewer was delicious, but I wish there was more sauce. The tiny dabs of peanut sauce could not save the vegetable spring rolls from their blandness. But on the bright side, the fried rolls tasted delicious because they were fried. One of the rolls was supposed to be filled with crab, but it was hard to taste the delicate flavor when it was so heavily fried. I had the bo luc lac "shaking beef" for the entree. Their take on this dish is a seared and cubed filet. The meat was tender and was cooked to the correct temperature. The vinaigrette performed unexpectedly well to cut through the heaviness of the meat. The fried lotus root was a nice touch, too. Unfortunately, this beautiful experience was ruined by the sheer mountain of watercress on my plate. Moreover, it was not evenly dressed, so this had the effect of making the eating experience similar to eating a pile of prickly and bland leaves and stems, like the kind of pile that comes from raking leaves in your backyard in autumn. The dessert was a tapioca pudding. It was on the sweet side, and the tapioca pearls were mushy and did not have any bite to them. Without any interesting texture, this dessert reminded me of soggy cereal, except drowned in cream and sugar.
Why this place is a 5 starer: 1. Ambience is of any top fine dinning restaurant, beautiful and romantic. 2. The moment I ask which wine should I go for , the server gave me a sample to try that's awesome 3. I ordered a lotus salad and my husband ate chicken wings he said he never had this good wings before. He ate them with hands and without asking the waiter gave him warm towel to wash. 4. We ordered a sea bass and garlic noodles as an entree. The fish was superbly made and very fresh, the noodles were by far the best stir fried I ever had no post acidic taste of a stir fry dish 5. Best part, I dropped a carrot flake on the table post by appetizer and when we were served the entrees, the waiter actually cleaned that one small peck like carrot flake from the table. If I knew this restaurant before, I would have visited here multiple times during my New York trip. For the next one, I would be here again for sure. Enjoyed every bit of the experience.
Have been going here for years. Never fail food is always on par. Drinks are always to the tee. Have your own request? No problem bartender will be happy to make it for you if ingredients are available. Hooked on kettle extra shaken with dash of orange bitters. Delicious. Menu wise there isn't a single thing I wouldn't recommend trying. Depends on what you're in mood for. Service is top knot here. Extremely well executed restaurant, staff and everything that comes with managing a smooth running restaurant
Food was okay, but the service was not professionally carried out.
I really like this restaurant; the staff are extremely friendly and service is terrific. The decor and seating does provide a feel for what French Indo-China must have been like. Having just been in Vietnam and Thailand I did think the overall atmosphere was very representative. The food is excellent. The flavors are just superb. There is a downstairs and upstairs, with the bar and lounge upstairs a very nice place to hang out.
