I confess, I didn't stay here. However, as far as old, dilapidated hotels go, you could not ask for more. I'm really not sure why this place is in such disrepair, but it is fascinating to walk through. I had breakfast in the attached diner downstairs, and came up to the main lobby to use the bathroom. Oh my heavens, you really should walk through this place, even if you're not booking a room. You might feel that this place is scarier than The Shining, and well, it is.
This place was a haven for bedbugs and the downtrodden. IM SURPISED IT WAS NEVER CLOSED DOWN THE HOUSING COMMISSION OR BOARD OF HEALTH.
Well in all honesty I have to say that it's been at least a few years since I've been to the club but I do know that when I was going it was an interesting experience. I started out just going to the club upstairs but because I knew some of the people who worked there I ended up not only hanging out in the Labyrinth, in the basement, but I worked stocking the bar and watching the door. While I can't say it was a great job I can say that being able to watch the bands and only paying half price, if not free, for my drinks was a definite perk. I can agree with people who talk about how bad it looks inside the hotel, especially the rooms. If you've come from out of town, or just don't want to worry about driving drunk, I think the convenience makes up for most of that.
Just terrible, even though the lobby looked quite classy. I stayed there when it was still a hotel and whenever I took the elevator my room as on 10th floor it just took me to the 4th floor! Which was really creepy because it was barely lit and there was graffiti, gang signs , swear words whatever written on the walls. Old, run down room with smelly, mouldy carpet, dirty bathroom. Whole neighbourhood was just abandoned. Although it was quite close to some tourist attractions, that's the only thing that was good about it. I only stayed there 1 night before immediately going to another. Yuck!
Luci and Ethel's Diner. Stopped here after seeing the open sign. The door was locked. I looked in and saw some guy standing at the register ignoring me. I wondered if they were closed or if he was just an idiot. If they were closed then why was the open sign still on? If they were not closed then why was the door locked and the guy ignoring me? BS. Based upon this negative experience, and the poor reviews I've been seeing, it looks like I won't be bothering to return.
It should be called the homeless bum turd fart hotel, I give it a negative 10,000. There was a turd in the toilet upon entering the room, the bed had no sheets, and there was a beer bottle in between the mattress and bed frame from what looked like 1975. There was a guy writing on the wall in the hallway upstairs, and I talked to the cleaning lady little did I know she didn't even work there when I asked the manager. What a great time!
Spent a few nights in the 80's. Uncle Sam use to put up future lightfighters here before heading off to basic training. What a dump. LOL, but its Motor City history.
My car was broken into. This could have been avoided if the the Leland had someone watching the lot. Leland's parking lot is not secured, despite what they say. This business takes zero accountability of keeping a person stationed at the gate and on watch. Stay away.
Expensive, no heat in October. Place was falling apart. Not what I expected for the price. This was a few years ago when I stayed at the hotel. I was a frequent club visitor, only stayed at the hotel once. I have not been back to the club or hotel since. 6 years I would say.
The lobby is incredible, I never got to go to the nightclub tho.
