We chose here cause nobody could agree on what to eat for lunch. The server was great. She kept our tea filled and got all the food right when it was brought out. Hubby has the veggie plate. The said greens had vinegar, the okra and tomatoes was alright, cabbage was good and the mixed veggies were flaccid. If you want your steak fried you half to get the chicken fried steak. Not the country fried steak. So that's what I got. Mashed potatoes were good with white gravy, the Alabama slaw was nothing but, lettuce shaved really thin and 1000 island dressing squirted in the middle, the skillet apples were good. As you can see they have corn MUFFINS that's a deal breaker for my hubby. For my best friend she loves them. If you like city ham for dinner get that cause it was good. Again, had a gluten free friend and he got the baked chicken breast. He said it was good. Mac and cheese looked on the dry side. Cornbread dressing is a NO. But, pork chop is bone in if you like that kinda thing.
My husband had been raving to me about Lizard's Thicket. He had been years ago when he lived in the area with his now late wife. So we stopped in for a date. The service and food was awesome. The only downside is that they cook their fish and other foods in the same oil/ on the same surface as their seafood/fish. So any who like my son are allergic will not be able to eat cooked foods there safely. So my son will not get to experience the cool place. We did bring my son home a slice of pie.
Souther comfort food. We found a small restaurant for lunch in Columbia SC Fried Okra and some turkey. Collard greens and some blackberry cobbler. Great service and nice country feel. What made me pick this place? The name of course. How can you go wrong with Lizard’s Thicket. Great job Debora!
The staff was friendly from the get go! We sat down right away when we went in for breakfast with a family of 5. And the food we ordered was done and in front of us ready to eat in less than 15mins! All of the food we ordered was amazing and very tasty. The price of our whole bill was very modest and did not give me the feeling of being over priced at all!
This food was amazing!!! It was recommended to us and did not disappoint. The peach cobbler and banana pudding were delicious as well. Great service!
Was in town for the Football game. After the game went back to hotel to take nap and when I woke up it was a little later in the evening and it seemed as if everything in this area closes early. Saw that this place closed at 9 so was like let’s check it out. When I pulled up should have went with my gut feeling because there was only like four cars there. But We were like we wanted some southern cooking and they was the only ones open. First off we come in and no greeting or welcome to Lizard’s Thicket. The gentleman running the register was very rude. I was like this is my first time here and was just wondering what was best. Then he was like if you dining in go find a seat and someone will be with you. The waiter seemed to be very tired and forgetting what she had going on. She was trying her best to keep it coming even with her being the only person serving. We were sitting close to where you can hear everything from the kitchen and all you would keep hearing is a microwave go on and off and then food come out. They were not making any of the food it was as of this had been cooked all day and they just warmed it in the microwave. You can taste when something has come out the microwave because if you cook it to long it get a different feel to it. So I had the fried pork chops, cabbage, fried okra, cornbread dressing, and a bowl of beef stew. The fried Okra was the only thing that tasted close to being fresh. Even the bread they brought out was microwaved to be warm. My friend had the fried pork chop, corn bread dressing, fried okra, and rice and gravy. The rice was still cold as if they didn’t warm it up enough and the corn bread dressing was dry and the pork chop was really bad. Like it had beeen sitting all day. When we asked for the check the waiter was like do you want to go boxes. We were like no we just want the check. It was so bad didn’t want to even see them try to fix it. The only reason they even got the two stars is because the waitress was trying even though she was alone. Trust me if you looking for some good southern food and in the west Charleston area this is not the place to be at all.
Take out was skimpy as all hell. $30 order could at least include some butter and a tartar sauce we ordered 2 waffles and then catfish so they come with the meal. Green beans had some uncooked chunks. Also, when someone orders cornbread, they mean more than a single tiny cornbread muffin. You get at least 2 when you go inside. Charged the same price for sit down but gave half the items and food quality. Rip off. Go to the one on Augusta Rd. instead. Much better in every way.
This was the worst meal we have had there. We have been customers for a long time. The mac and cheese was very dry and tasted like it was two days old or had been sitting under a heat lamp since lunch time. The fried okra was very cold and greasy. My daughter got the small plate with two chicken strips. They must have been running low on the chicken. One strip was cut into two pieces. This was a to go order so we could not send it back. Requested tarter and cocktail sauce. None was provided.
Food was good as expected. Service was excellent, she made sure we had everything we needed. Luckily for us, it wasn't that busy, but people were starting to come in. This Lizzard Thicket is better than the one closest to our home. Would recommend this restaurant.Food: 4/5
Food at this location is just okay. Have had better tasting meals at other Lizard Thicket locations. The cabbage wasn’t cut up enough to lead me to believe they weren’t washed thoroughly. The yams were terrible. The rice was undercooked. The beef stew was tasteless. Cornbread dressing, baked chicken, butter beans, nana pudding and sweet tea were all good. So in all it will be a hit or miss depending on your taste buds that’s why I went with a 3 as a score.
