We have been working personally with this company for 5+ years. They have done moving and storage for us each year. We made a move of all of our belongings from our home and storage with them to our new home. We have always had wonderful considerate service. This move was a disaster. The movers did not cover flooring and carpets and walked through mud and snow into our brand new home. Boxes were busted open, turned upside down and damaged. The broke a table and simply hid it among the boxes so we wouldn't see it. Other furniture was damaged, walls damaged, railings damaged. When I asked if they could cover the flooring better they told me they had no more tarps to put down. I had to have brand new carpets cleaned and spent a day cleaning brand new wood floors of mud and salt. When I called the manager said "why don't you tell me your side of the story"!! I knew then that this wouldn't go well. Of course when he talked to the crew they denied it. They claimed that I told them they didn't need to cover the flooring. That they hadn't damaged anything etc. The table they broke was new and $500, in addition to damage to other furniture and broken dishes. I estimated the damage at close to $1000. I filled out the forms with all information and after weeks of waiting they offered me $200!!! Shame on me for not getting insurance but since I had used them so many times with wonderful service I didn't feel the need to. Ryan the manager was so rude and condescending to me about the whole experience. He claims that state laws do not allow them to compensate me for the damages that is why they could only give me $200. What a bunch of lies.
Sadly I will never use this company again nor will I recommend them to anyone.
Also I did not take the money, it is sad that they don't value their dedicated customers more than this.

We had a great experience. The move itself was a little more than they did for the quote over the phone but pretty close to what we were planning (difference of $100). And I think that was more me trying to guess how much stuff we had in our storage unit as it was hard to give numbers.
The three guys were really quick and super polite. We had a bunch of food available for them to grab and eat, when they did they took it as a 15 minute break and did not charge us... I totally would have let them eat on the clock.
We were really happy with the movers, company and time frame to move. Would use again if we need to move.

I hired this company first time ever to hire any movers but I had nothing but a bad experience! I was told one price for my move but charged double! The movers were as slow as molasses, milking the time it took them to wrap and move (only my heavy things) Then, when they got to our new home they again slowed down the move take there time. I ended up with a broken bedside table, which I have yet to know when it will be fixed. My answer to you! be sure you know exactly how they are charging for the move example: time, man power (how many are you paying for) don't let the sales rep. rush you through the cost of the move. Be sure you know everything you are being charged for. I would not use this company ever again and would not suggest them to my worst enemy!! The company called me back about paying for the broken end table and all they will pay is .60 per pound, they say the weight of my end table is about 40lbs, keep in mind this is a brand new solid Hickory, so they will pay $24 for my broken table. If you use them, make sure you ask if you have any other choice for insurance other than .60 cents per pound, because they will not tell you they have full coverage, the GM told me they don't have to tell you that! This company bent us over twice, once on the double cost of the move and once on not paying for the carelessness of the movers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To the GM, your response on my review, your movers kept trying to move more that what was discussed! I told them when they came in the house to move only the large items as Tony and I had discussed! Bottom line I will NEVER use you for anything in the future and I will do everything in my power to spread the word about what kind of a company you really are.

Here is a breakdown of my rating:
Their ability to provide an honest and accurate moving quote prior to your move = 1 star. The move ended up being twice as much as what was quoted prior to my move. Sure you could say that I ended up having more stuff than they anticipated, but (1) I was very detailed in my assessment over the phone, (2) professional movers moved my belongings only two years prior and that move cost half as much, and (3) for some reason the hourly rate increased by about 20% for the unloading portion of the move, and that was never really explained, and there were more movers present than originally quoted.
The actual move = 3.5 stars. The movers were friendly and professional and seemed to work quickly. However, they didn't seem to understand that heavier boxes should go towards the bottom of piles while lighter boxes should go towards the top (many boxes were crushed in the move). They also damaged a few pieces of furniture.
After the move = 0 stars. I made a claim for one of those damaged pieces of furniture on the spot (the other pieces I opted to fix myself); it was a ripped leather chair. They sent me an email a week after the move saying that their vendor would contact me within a week or two . I waited a month with no call back. Contacted LM and they said they switched vendors and a new vendor would contact me. The new vendor eventually contacted me, but then they decided that they would just cut me a check instead of fixing the chair (and the amount of the check would definitely not cover what it would actually cost to repair that chair, but I guess I'm kind of stuck with that). That was towards the beginning of January. They said the check could take up to 60 days because.... maybe they don't use computers? Maybe they rely on homing pigeons to bring the check from Antarctica?
My move was towards the beginning of November. It is now March, and they still haven't made good on that check. I've had to follow-up several times now. I think they just wait for people to forget or lose interest in following up.

UPDATE to add: We moved on April 14. It's now May 25, and I still haven't been able to get Ryan, the General Manager, on the phone. I'm giving it another week before escalating to the BBB. From my perspective, responding to customer concerns and holding themselves to their bids are not what Local Motion is about.
Here's how the move went: I got a reasonable quote after talking with Bill on the phone about the size of our house, the type of furniture and appliances. And the *first thing* the team told me when they walked in was that a move our size would take twice that time under normal conditions. The first thing they asked me to do was to sign a new quote for 11 hours of work, up from 5 quoted. We were hamstrung, because we needed to be out of our rental. Also: I used a huge black marker to label rooms where I wanted boxes to go. I'm *still* moving boxes marked BASEMENT and MASTER in from the garage. If the team had asked if it was ok to dump stuff in the garage to save time, that'd be one thing. They didn't.
Original: If you just need some extra help, don’t care paying more than three times what you're quoted, or the condition of your stuff, and have the time to do a lot of the final moving yourself, these guys are fine. If you want an accurate quote, and a careful, efficient, full service job, and doors locked behind them, look elsewhere. Aside: The Minnesotan in me feels bad leaving a negative review, because the team did work hard to get us moved during an April blizzard. The team was really kind, too. BUT they charged THREE TIMES what they quoted, and even with that didn’t move things to where we wanted, and were really rough with boxes and the houses. I’d love to be spending the day after my move unpacking, but instead I’m spending it moving boxes, appliances, and furniture into the house that they just dumped into the garage - things that are clearly labeled with the rooms of the house on them, into a garage they then left unlocked without telling me - and buying replacement screws for furniture they took apart, and then lost the screws for. And patching woodwork and dings in the walls. I did not expect to have to do this stuff, and I don’t think they’re worth the price.
