The summer intensive program at the Maggie Flanigan Studio was life changing. Within 6 short weeks, Charlie encouraged me to work hard, explore my creativity, and to question who I really am. The professional bar he sets for his students is very high and it’s the reason I was able to push myself further than I ever expected. He doesn’t accept mediocrity, but instead inspires you to be brave and take risks. He believes in his students and knows how to help each person grow as an individual. The work is hard and learning to be open and vulnerable can be scary, but the Maggie Flanigan Studio and all of the teachers provide you with a safe space to seek out your most truthful and honest self. All of the staff are so passionate about what they do and why we are here as artists. This is a place where actors are free to explore so many different facets of themselves and learn what it truly means to be human. I know I will cherish what I’ve learned here for the rest of my life.

I had been waiting to hear back from a couple of MFA programs for weeks, when a coach of mine suggested I look in to the Maggie Flanigan Studio. I had my heart set on getting an mfa, but decided there would be no harm in meeting with Charlie Sandlan to talk about the program. Within minutes of talking to him I decided that I needed to study there - no longer caring whether I got into the programs I had yet to hear back from. Charlie immediately saw that I was serious about studying acting, and over the two years of the program gave me the best training I could have hoped for. Studying at the Maggie Flanigan Studio not only made me a well-trained actor, but helped me grow into the person I had always seen myself as.

The Maggie Flanigan Studio has changed me as an actor, an artist, and as a human being. When I enrolled in the summer intensive I expected to learn the foundation of Meisner technique and head straight back to the audition room. I was feeling burnt out and frustrated when I started the summer intensive. I'd taken intensives at other studios before, and I thought I knew what I had signed up for. My expectations were blown away. I left the summer intensive with a deeper love for acting, a much greater understanding of what it means to craft and truthfully do, and a renewed sense of self. Charlie will push you beyond what you think you are capable of. It's some of the hardest work I have done, but it is also some of the most worthwhile. Charlie creates an atmosphere where you feel safe to be vulnerable and take risks. The Maggie Flanigan Studio is training actors who will have long careers. They aren't interested in creating a cookie-cutter product. They are interested in what you bring to the table. If you're passionate about acting, the Maggie Flanigan Studio is the place for you. Your passion will be matched by all the faculty, and you will leave the studio a better actor, artist, and person.

The growth and profound self exploration experienced through taking this journey at Maggie Flanigan Studio is unparalleled; I’ve never felt so connected to who I am, and who I am becoming. It has opened my eyes, mind, and heart to the deepest aspects of my persona, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have found Maggie Flanigan Studio. Moreover, I love how they preach about work ethic and challenge you to question your contribution to this industry and great art form. Not only is the work challenging and highly rewarding, the space created is a safe haven, which allows an openness to experiences that are free of judgement. The keen awareness of Charlie as well as the faculty at MFS have of each student’s essence allows you to flourish both as an artist and human. If you’re looking for a comprehensive training that explores all facets of who you are mentally, emotionally, physically and even spiritually, you’ve come to the right place. Maggie Flanigan Studio is the place to be.

I have taken classes at other studios in New York and trained with so many different teachers. Many of these acting teachers have that kind of nice approach and pat you on the back when you do horrible work. You don't grow from that. When I interviewed with Charlie, he told me that he was tough and he was fair. It is all true. Anytime I get criticism from him it might hurt, at first. Nothing that he says is personal; it is all professional and straightforward. When I sit with it I realize that he is right. He is coming from the right place because he is pushing us to work harder, work better and craft tighter. I spent a year at acting program similar to this and I learned a lot. I grew but I felt like something was missing. In the very first class with Charlie, I realized that he was teaching what I was missing; depth and intensity. Come here and challenge yourself. Take the leap. It is not going to be easy, but it will be worth it.
