Was able to visit their newer location and it did not disappoint! We arrived around 7pm and although the line was up the line was up the stairs, it moved fairly quickly! We got our food around 7:50pm and added uni to it too. Definitely one of my go-to and favorite spots for fresh fish.Food: 5/5
Maguro Brothers is a takeout counter shop that offers a selection of sashimi and poke bowls. They're open Monday to Saturday from 5 pm to 8 pm. This was my favourite "cheap eats" in Waikiki great value would be more accurate. The fish served here were super fresh, well seasoned, and the regular size was the perfect portion for me. I tried both a sashimi bowl and a poke bowl and thoroughly enjoyed both. There's usually a line up here, and you can expect to wait about 10 to 15 minutes for your food after you place your order they will call your number when it's ready. However, given the number of orders they need to fulfill, the staff here would be considered efficient and friendly. There are also some tables outside the shop for you to sit and eat if you don't want to take your food to go.
There's a tuna specialty shop I've been curious about for a while. Since they’re only open from 5 PM to 8 PM, I hadn't had the chance to visit. However, we happened to pass by after dinner and decided to give it a try. As expected, it was very crowded since they’re only open for three hours. We stood in line and got a medium fatty tuna bowl and two servings of uni. The tuna was incredibly fresh, as if it had just been caught, and the uni was so creamy and delicious. I'll definitely come back again!
Visited Aug. 2022 Best Poke I’ve had in my life!! I wish I could come back just to eat at this place. If I ate here before going to all the fancy restaurants on the water, Id probably would’ve just ate here instead of those fancy beach restaurants. We brought it to a seated area to enjoy.
I had a quick overnight layover in Honolulu and was craving some sushi for dinner. The front desk of the hotel recommended Maguro Brothers as it was a short distance away. The girl said it was a great hole in the wall, and there usually is a line, so it was recommended I get there early. This location is downstairs by the mall and only opens at 5pm. Being Friday, I decided to get there around 4:30 p.m., and the line had already started. By the time the place opened, the line was out the door, up the stairs, and to the sidewalk. The menu is quite extensive and reasonably priced. I found the portions to be excellent and very flavorful. After ordering, I was given a receipt with my order number. There were lots of tables in the mall area, so I sat down to wait. I was called well before the 15 min prep time that was posted. I would definitely recommend checking out Maguros Brothers. It wasn't a fancy sushi restaurant, but you don't need that to serve great sushi.
Best sushi on the island! I had dinner here 4 out of 5 days I was there they close on Sunday or else I would eat here 5 days haha People there are sooooo nice and kind. The quality of the fish is top tier compared to the price. I had big eye toro and blue fin tuna toro, ikura, uni, and tamago. I personally can’t eat uni bc every other places I tried is fishyI always order uni at sushi restaurant just to see if it meet my final standards but I love uni here!! It’s sweet and creamy which is better than omakaze I had in New York! Highly recommend!
Maguro Brothers isn't fancy. There's nothing flashy and no live music or pretty colors despite being a block from the main tourist street. They just make some of the best clean sashimi and poke you can get! The plates all come made to order in little boxes. There are two menu sections - one Japanese style sashimi, and one Hawaiian style poke. Both are great featuring very pretty presentation and clean knife cuts. They're located in the basement so expect to go down stairs from the street. There is a restroom but you'll need to get a code from staff to use it. Seating is available just outside the restaurant in the basement. Vegetarian options: There are a couple of vegetarian options
Now I can see why there's always a long line but try to come towards their closing time to skip the wait. This place only opens for dinner at 5PM. It's located on the other side of STIX Asia food hall. Order at the register and your order number will be called out. There's a few tables around to sit at since it's an open space. Would highly recommend trying the chirashi. Such great portion for the price and it's served over sushi rice. The sashimi cut was super fresh as expected. Services were also very friendly. They have such a large menu of different combos so plenty of options to choose from. One of the best poke places in the area.
High quality fish! The meals one poke bowl, one nigiri pictured are simple: just fish and rice with few accompanying elements. This allows the quality of the fish to come through. I preferred the poke bowl and it was cheaper. But both were good. The atmosphere is meh- it’s downstairs so there is no sun and it feels like a mall food court.
Very fresh fish, and salmon was super buttery. I think I would prefer more sauce on my poke though. Portion sizes weren't big even at XL. Needed more food afterwardsRecommended dishesChu-Toro Combo w Shoyu Poke
