Maison Pickle

About

Where we bring American culinary classics into the conversation with the contemporary dining experience.

Story

Maison Pickle is a new eatery in New York City’s Upper West Side that brings continental classics and that iconic American sandwich, the French Dip, to a resurgent culinary community. Led by Jacob Hadjigeorgis of Jacob’s Pickles, Maison Pickle will open on January 14th, 2017, with a menu built around considered cocktails and all-American favorites.

A refined and relaxed setting for food and drink, Maison Pickle brings a style and substance akin to New York’s grand dining experiences, respecting the venerated traditions of a sandwich of meat swaddled in bread and dipped in jus. From the neon signage to the dramatic banquettes, the restaurant pays homage to the distinguished and diverse cultural communities that have come to define an evolving Upper West Side, while bringing the West Coast culinary invention to a new home in New York.

With a luxe-populist attitude, Maison Pickle is Jacob Hadjigeorgis’ second restaurant on the Upper West Side and is just as French as the French Dip. (It is not a French restaurant.) The new restaurant is located in the former home of Ouest, a beloved venue that inspired loyalty in the neighborhood, and Maison Pickle will continue that tradition.

Part cheap eat, part culinary invention, the French Dip is part of the backbone of urban pub food since its early days in 1910s Los Angeles at the Cole’s Pacific Electric Buffet, or at Phillipe’s, depending on who you’re talking to. Comfortable, inventive, and inviting—the pleasures of American restauranting—are traits reimagined for a contemporary urban experience in Manhattan’s West 80s.

All of the ingredients are seasonally and sustainably sourced; the beef comes from Fleischer’s Butcher in Brooklyn, and fish from Lobster Place in the Chelsea Market. The kitchen is helmed by Executive Chef Glenroy Brown and Chef de Cuisine Harold Villarosa - who began his career at Ouest— taking liberties in expanding our understanding of wet sandwiches while sustaining the traditions of the iconic Angeleno French Dips.

Food

Maison Pickle’s French Dip sandwich strives to establish a history and tradition of that special dish on the East coast and in New York City. While only shades of the sandwich’s potential have reached Manhattan, Jacob saw “a way to make the French Dip better, with care, and with the best ingredients and talent,” building on his work with Jacob’s Pickles’ - the champion of Southern food in New York. He says, “the French Dip is a special sandwich. The combination of the best meats from our friends at Fleischer’s, in-house baked bread, and pan-scraped jus brings a smile to my face, and I want to see that twinkle of satisfaction in my guests.” The food at Maison Pickle will bring the best continental standards to the Upper West Side, with the French Dip leading the way.

Drink

To drink, guests can choose from classic cocktails, a beer from the cellar, and a diverse selection of wines that are as carefully sourced as the ingredients the chefs cook with. The farmer, gardener, or breeder—Maison Pickle looks to vintners who produce wines with an authentic history, tradition, and terroir.

At Maison Pickle, cocktails share the stage with food. With a touch of glamour, they complement the history of the space and menu with an expressive reverence for the past and an ambitious vision of the future. For example, a foie gras French Dip sandwich pairs with The Upper West Side, a cognac and brandy take on the Manhattan—dark spirits cut through the rich meat. Food and drink as one, sharing a palate through common ingredients and varying textures—victuals and spirits at play.

Drinking is just as important as eating at Maison Pickle, and, in concert with cocktails, Jacob’s personal beer collection will be available alongside an extensive wine list developed in collaboration with wine director Guy Devereux - another Ouest alumnus. Capturing the “French” heritage of Maison Pickle our wine list addresses the food first, while complimenting the rest of the drink menu. Profiles and pairings aim to please all palates, the list includes consciously selected wines from varying methods of production including organics and biodynamics. While broadening horizons with new ways of looking at the most traditional flavors Guy has also added unexpected varietals and regions - a departure for this address - opening new doors for our guests.

Design & Inspiration

Led by Jacob Hadjigeorgis and in collaboration with Punch Architecture, Maison Pickle is designed to evoke elegance and glamour while maintaining personality of authenticity. After Ouest shuttered in 2015, Jacob Hadjigeorgis recognized the need to revive the space and continue the tradition of grand dining experiences in the Upper West Side. Re-imagining that foundation of refined dining, Maison Pickle is inspired by classic American eateries, drawing on the convivial dining traditions and the spaces of across the continent. Combining classic modern elements with cutting edge details, Maison Pickle aims to deliver a timeless experience.

Jacob’s Pickles

Jacob’s Pickles is an southern comfort food restaurant specializing in foods with a new American craft experience. Since its launch on the Upper West Side of NY in late 2011, the restaurant is excited to have become a lifestyle destination, catering to a community that shares a love for home-cooked food, artisanal beer and cocktails, modern, tailored design and of course, pickles.

Jacob’s Digs

Jacob’s Digs is inspired by Jacob’s vision of local businesses and residents banding together to improve their community and provide opportunities for the next generation. The group looks forward to continuing to work to revolutionize the way our children make their own food choices and, ultimately, the future of the food industry.

Maison Pickle is absolutely delicious. This is my second time here and it was perfect! The vibe indoors is great, but this time we had the pups with us so we sat outside. We got a version of an espresso martini and a spicy margarita. The pull apart honey and butter bread is SO GOOD. It's a great starter if you're hungry and want something quick. We then also ordered the deluxe French dip and hot honey chicken n French toast. SO DAMN DELICIOUS! Not going to lie, i drank whatever was left of the dip And the hot honey chicken was A++++++. I wish we had more room for dessert, but this is the second time I came and had no room for the beautiful layered cakes! Staff is absolutely wonderful so I can't wait to come back again!
So indulgent and incredible. Came here for brunch and got the garlic parm pull apart bread to share - so soft and amazing. I want to try the honey and butter one next time. For entrees, I shared the hot chicken and toast and deluxe French dip with a friend. Honestly could’ve shared one entree and it would’ve been more than enough food. Both were delicious but definitely recommend the chicken and toast!
Loved this place. While there mains are huge and would no doubt send me into a diabetic coma we had the starters which were the equivalent to a Australian main course. Very fresh . The cinnamon buns we took home and had for breakfast for 2 days. Great staff. Fast food Cold drinks Excellent
My friends and I took the trip from CT. We were not disappointed. It exceeded our expectations. We had a table full of food and EVERYTHING was good. Scott was our server. He was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, which helped us alot. He's also very friendly. He's definitely a people person. The wait time, was long, but it is well worth it.
Very nice restaurant on the west side. Options were good but the portions are wow! Best bang for your buck in the area. While cozy there was comfort in both space and food. Drink options were also good. Kudos to the staff and our server Dayanna. We'll be there again soon.
Decor is very modern and feels like you've entered a whole other world outside of the city. The portions are VERY generous, we were only able to eat maybe 40% of what we ordered. The food quality was just as good as the portion side. The pull a part rolls were a huge highlight as was the Hot Vibes tea. Can't wait to go back!Food: 5/5
The server for my table was equipped with knowledge about customer preferences and with her own recommendations as well. The portions were overall on the bigger side? Like everyone at the table had to get a to-go box. So I would say their brunch food menu price is quite fair considering the portion and the location. Everything was just perfectly seasoned to its best flavor. The only negative was that even with reservation and everybody on time we still had to wait extra 30mins for the table for a party of 8 to be ready.
Highly recommend coming to Maison Pickle! I’ve only ever visited for brunch, but I’m sure their dinner is just as delicious. They’re known for their “pull apart” bread rolls, which are some of the best rolls I’ve ever had. I also highly recommend trying one of the Challah French Toast options. Keep in mind the portion sizes are LARGE and you may need a to-go box for leftovers. Enjoy!
Maison Pickle ranks high on my list of favorite places to go out and eat. The menu is filled with delicious options such as classic French dip and Buffalo Mac n’ cheese. Portions are very generous so there is plenty to eat and take to go. I loved the drinks as well. Having them served in the tall glasses was a nice surprise. Can’t wait to go back!
Quickly seated at 6:30 without reservation but could tell the place was starting to fill up. Friendly and prompt service. Nice ambience. Eclectic and clean. Even the high top seating has a little room to move given space in NYC restaurants is a premium. Food was tasty served hot which seems strange to mention but doesn’t happen as often as if you’d think in other places. Made to order scratch kitchen with a modern touch / refresh on diner classics. Patty melt was my favorite but my daughter really enjoyed the French Dip. In other words, I think there is something here for everybody and would recommend with enthusiasm if your are in the upper west side of town.
