An empty parking lot during the lunch rush should have been my first clue to stay away. I really wanted to have some Carolina BBQ after being away from my SC home for so many years. This place was pretty disappointing. Gets two stars because the hash, while greasy, was not horrible.
I highly recommend the brisket! It was so tender and full of flavor. The macaroni & cheese was also delicious. It was baked with a crust on top like homemade. Yum The server at the window was very friendly! I can't wait to return the next time I'm in the areaFood: 5/5
Short and sweet… we LOVE their fresh-made burgers. However, we ordered Brisket Burnt Ends today… they came in literally a cup of oil and most of them were too tough to eat. We had their pulled pork YEARS ago. Not a fan of the sauce they let it soak in all day. So it’s burgers for us!
Horrible! All I ordered was large order of sweet potato fries and a strawberry shortcake. The fries were greasy tasting, no sugar or cinnamon. Like they were re-dropped to warm up. The box the shortcake was in got tossed sideways in the bag, all the juice leaked out. That's all there had been was juice, no strawberries at all. And to think I left a tip. I'll vote with my feet.
Grew up eating at Piggy Park in the 80s, and just brought my hubby here for the first time, during our 5th anniversary trip to Columbia. It did not disappoint! Hubby now wants to come to eat here anytime we come down from North Carolina! And yup, I think we bought maybe 4 bottles of sauce and a pound of pulled pork to take home!!Food: 5/5
We were visiting and missed good BBQ since we no longer live in the south. We are from Alabama so our bar was pretty high to be far. We both got a pulled pork plate that came with two sides. It was fairly expensive. The meat came covered in their signature carolina gold sauce which we were not expecting. We were expecting to put it on ourselves to try and if we didn't like it then we could use a more traditional sauce. My husband felt it was very mustardy even though we have had similar sauces on wings that were very good. I went back to order a small order of plain just so he could eat. The meat itself was tender and I didn't get many burnt pieces but my husband said he had quite a few burnt bites. The mac and cheese was baked and "traditionally southern" and not made with a reaux cheese sauce. We like both ways but the Mac and cheese was dry and had clumps of unmelted cheese throughout. The noodles were also very overcooked turning them into mush in your mouth almost immediately. The fried okra was very good and cooked perfectly. The breading was good and they were crispy without being burnt. The potato salad was good which we had very little hopes for. The baked beans were mediocre canned beans with hardly any additional seasoning. The hushpuppies were actually good which was surprising. We ordered their "homemade" banana pudding which was literally just banana pudding mix with some wafers on top. Definitely not homemade traditional banana pudding. The peach cobbler however was pretty good. It was made with real peaches which was a plus but there were a lot of them and we caught ourselves wanting more of the breading part because it was very good. Their brown bbq sauce was very good and we wish it would have been offered to us whether we wanted the sc gold sauce or plain to add our own to. We may go back and try some other sides and get our BBQ without sauce and for the peach cobbler, but honestly it was very underwhelming to be considered "the best BBQ in the state".
O.M.G! Is the best way I can explain the taste and flavor of the BBQ here. Short of using the "F" word plus, " ing!", at the end. First time visiting this place and had the pulled pork platter, with fries and hash/rice. While I did not care too much for the mustard sauce, the vinegar based sauce was phenomenal. The seating area is small, neat, clean, and very chill. Staff was friendly, kind, and courteous. A real, " down home," " southern style,"and restaurant I will most definitely return to if I'm ever in Columbia.
The food was awesome, the staff was very nice and they got our order ready very fast, the price of the food was more than reasonable. When we travel through South Carolina, we always try to stop at one of Maurice's BBQ, and this one is the best out of all of the ones we have eaten at.Food: 5/5
Bad experience brisket was cold and I got 4 end pieces one was only fat. Mac and cheese not made. Lady completely rude. Didn't even provide utensils or napkins. Try another location or just go somewhere else....
Pretty good...alot better than i expected and a very nice place to sit and enjoy bbq
