A beautiful art campus! In addition to the main collection, make sure you also go to the Cy Twombly gallery, drawing institute, and Rothko Chapel. There is also a bookstore and cafe. I wish we were allowed to take photos because there was an extensive collection of masters of modern art. I suppose because it is free, they want you to buy the art books. The other side contains exhibitions from contemporary artists and African and indigenous art. In this day and age, there ought to be signage to address the colonialism since there is a movement to return this art to the original peoples.
I was there to see Joseph E. Yoakum. It’s a gorgeous exhibition. No photos are allowed inside.Price for adult entryFree
A real must visit location for architects. The collection itself as well as the building architecture is very interesting
The guy sits at the reception desk who apparently moved from New York not long ago seems JUST WANTS TO SPEND HIS DAY. NOT an asset to the art museum or at any job he could possibly land.
I loved it, and so did my 11-yr-old. We learned about Joseph Yoakum and admired his work that he produced past the age of 71. While we were marvelling at his Yoakum’s pieces, one of the museum workers loudly asked me if I spoke Tagalog. “You look like a Filipino and you should learn to speak Tagalog.” Ma’am, we are in a museum so use your art gallery voice, and also why are you harassing me with what you think I should be speaking? Other than that strange encounter, I enjoyed the art. The area just outside of the building with trees and boulders also felt like an art installation in and of itself.
Beautiful building and landscaping. Very good collections!!!
For free admission it's truly a great deal. Every so often, a new artist/exhibit is staged/presented.
Beautiful building, great addition to the Menil Museums!
As an individual place to visit, it requires about 30-60 mins max. I saw some people walk in and out while I was waiting for my fiancée, so there isn’t an extraordinary amount of content. The place is serene, the architecture some of the best in the city. As a collective, the menil is a powerhouse conglomeration of art. It’s breadth now is growing to be one of the most impressive outpourings in the world. Keep up the great work!
Superb addition to the Menil Collection. Like the rest of the Menil, this is a quiet, understated place. The gallery is small, so you may spend more time admiring the architecture than the actual art.
