Story

MetroStage is a professional not-for-profit theatre company dedicated to producing an eclectic season of contemporary plays and musicals that are chosen to enrich, enlighten and entertain. MetroStage presents original, challenging, and innovative work that reflects the diverse population of the Washington metropolitan area: work that is unpredictable and nontraditional; work that tells a compelling story and showcases remarkable talent. MetroStage also works with playwrights and composers and is recognized for its role in the development of new plays and musicals for the stage.
MetroStage showcases local, regional and national actors, directors, designers, and playwrights who collaborate to create dramatic and compelling productions which entertain, elaborate and further our understanding of the human condition. Always current, always contemporary, and always challenging, MetroStage’s work speaks to the concerns and passions of our times by showcasing the dynamic writing and performances of the best contemporary artists. The unique design of the 130 seat theatre emphasizes the close connection between the actors and the audience, offering a powerful, immediate, enriching experience in an intimate setting. The architectural design of the theatre space received recognition in 2001 from the American Institute of Architects.
