This place was BOMB! We were looking to go to another place for dinner but we ended up here instead. This is one of those places where you feel the vibe just pulled you there for whatever reason. Music was also on point, and the food was delicious! Oh, and if you're a sangria fan like I am, definitely order theirs! Food: 5/5
Authentic Mexican cantina vibe. Went on a Friday evening, although food could be tastier, it is compensated by offering cheap drinks, great Latin music and a colorful ambiance.
My wife and I have been frequenting Mezcalero since they first opened. In the beginning, they were amazing! But with time, they've gone downhill. I'd say they went from 5 stars to 3.5 stars. Our Favorites: Mezcalero Salad - Mixed Greens, Honey Vinaigrette, Cheese, Cucumber, Onions, Grated Orange Peel, Pumpkin Seeds Carne Asada - Flat Iron Grilled Steak, Onions, Cilantro Taco Mixto - Steak, Chorizo, Onions, Cilantro Salmon - Grilled Salmon, Avocado, Pico de Gallo, Chipotle Sauce Camarones - Shrimp & Avocado Barbacoa - Overnight Slow-cooked Goat, Onions, Cilantro The salad is so simple, fresh and delicious. I love the flavor combination. The only thing we really like and get here are the tacos. We've tried their fajitas and ceviche - they were okay. Don't really recommend them. Service is hit or miss. Service was much better when they first opened. And the food has become saltier and blander. We've haven't been back since the pandemic, and don't really miss it. So probably won't plan to come back.
Unfortunately, I had an incredibly lackluster experience here. We were seated inside immediately the table was cleared but never cleaned from the prior customers, but didn’t get waited on in a timely manner. It took a really long time for the chips and salsa to come. All those things I could’ve overlooked, as someone who works in the service industry I know that they were understaffed and I’m empathetic. However, my food came out completely cold. And then it took FORTY minutes for my friend’s meal to arrive after mine got there. After about 10 minutes, I was able to flag someone down and politely ask “hi ma’am, just wanted to check on my friend’s chicken enchiladas” the status of her food. I was then dismissed and told it was coming. About 15 minutes after that, the server comes back to re-take my friend’s order. So my friend waited about an hour for her food, which didn’t come until 40 minutes after my food arrived. I also had to get up to refill my own water, and I had to ask for the check twice. I would say that out of all the folks in the restaurant, 70% were frustrated with the service. Everyone was complaining to one another. Another huge issue was that their computer was down, so orders were being taken and communicated manually and payments were taken by the servers to the restaurant next door to process. So it boils down to being understaffed and having tech issues. These things are no fun, but the way the restaurant handled it exacerbated the issues. After a party left, they would immediately bus the table and sit someone else, rather than waiting on the customers they already had and telling new customers there would be a wait. It was just a situation of mismanagement that resulted in a terrible restaurant experience for most of their customers last night. I feel for them and wish them the best, but I don’t think I’ll go back.
I like the food. It tastes fresh and authentic. I wish the service was faster. Every dish is about $20. Three person meal would be about $100.
I've visited this location since it first opened and I've enjoyed the addition of food options as time has gone by. The service is always superb and the food and drinks are always on point! Always enjoy the great ambiance and the option to dine inside or outside. I've taken different groups here, work and friends, including out of towners, and everyone always enjoys it. It's always great to dine here when I visit, since I no longer live in the area. Vegetarian options: Nopales and huitlacoche always on the menu Kid-friendliness: Probably a good place for older kids and teens as there isn't a designated place for kids to run around, considering how busy it always is
Great flavors with spatial and ample outdoor seating. Service is friendly/attentive and they have free chips and salsa to open any order over $4. They also have $6 margaritas during happy hour. We often go for their tacos and tortas - see their al pastor pictured is especially tasty! ig: @harshaeats
This team is ON IT. Multiple times I’ve ordered Posole. It’s my local spot that offers this delicacy. I have arrived and been offered a beer. I’ve been graciously been asked to wait. Always I’ve received kindness. Even been offered alternatives. Love them!
Me and six friends had dinner there Saturday evening. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I got the Ceviche Mixto and it was fresh and tasty. I've never seen oysters in Ceviche, but they were a nice twist. I also got the pulpo sopa which was also very good. Don't miss out on the verde salsa that comes with the chips order. The heat is just right, and it tastes like it's made to order. The Margarita pitcher is a good deal, and they don't hold back on the booze. I like it so much that I'm going back this week with family. The menu is huge, with so much to try out. Dining outside was really nice.
Whenever I visit my friends in D.C I look the opportunity to stop in the Mezcalero, because is the closest to the authentic Mexican food, the guacamole, tacos, mole poblano, are so tasty, but my favorites are the huaraches with huitlacoche and nopales and Of cure ! the traditional margaritas are so good.Generally very hard working staff who deserve a good tip.
