Mountain Grand Lodge and Spa

Family had come here for years. This will be our last. I have never spent so much money to have such horrible service. From the lift operators who seemed to be annoyed we were trying to have a casual chat to the security guard who said he had no idea why there were no towels at the pool and then yelled "pools closed"like we were a bunch of college kids instead of parents and grandparents. Watching this poor server at the lodge restaurant trying to handle 8 tables while the manager sat at the bar drinking his Ice tea with the bartender who was drinking a beer right next to our bar drinks for 10 min instead of either of them helping her run drinks. (Great management!). Finally the literally 10 lift operators drinking in the hot tub, blasting their music and cussing in front of families and children. There's are a ton of ski destinations closer to us that give basic, friendly service. I'm not asking for 5 stars, just basic friendly people.

The rating is for the spa and its personal, who are friendly and go above to make customer happy. The hotel itself could do better I will not give mora than 3 stars to it. Overall is a good experience if you are willing to wait 2 hours for check in and overlook so details in the service.

My fiance and I booked this last minute as we had to change our vacation plans to the UP due to weather. We booked a condo at the mountain villas for a reasonable price. They allowed us to check in about 1/2 hour early and the place was a ghost town (we didn't mind). The condo itself was very nice and had all the cookware and utensils we needed. But to be honest, the trip in itself was just okay. A lot of the places were closed and what was open had outrageous pricing. Food lacked big time...Everett's was awful and disgusting along with expensive. Boiled ribs with tomato paste as a sauce? Gross. The only place we enjoyed was the Trophy Room because the pizza was phenomenal. We ate twice while we were there. Other times we drove out to Meijer for their hot food section. The clocktower hot tub was nice except the top half of the jets didn't work. We did purchase day spa passes one day which was enjoyable except for the fact employees took over the outdoor pool and hot tubs areas. I guess when they don't work they can use the spa as they please. We ended up leaving because they were loud, rude, and obnoxious. Also, customer service was TERRIBLE. Especially in the restaurants...they were more into chatting with other employees than actually taking care of the customers. The only really customer service we received was by a maintenance worker who happened to be out plowing after the snow on Friday night. We happened to get stuck and he hopped out of his snow plow and pushed us out with no hesitation. I hope he reads this because he's the only good service we received the four days we were there. I would not book this place again, the prices don't match the service or experience at all.

Beautiful lodge with a real fireplace to enjoy. The spa is outstanding!! Relation room, hot tub, steam room, sauna.

Took a hour for check in and rude service. Food was decent. The waterpark was nice.
