Weird experience. No one really asked us what we wanted to eat, we got a tiny water and some way too sweet tea and then decided to leave. It might be good, it might be bad, but because no one really treated us like we were there to eat we left.
I can't give less then a 5 star! That's my friend place! They are more like a family with clients. Two lovely brothers in their old age still running the place.... Beautiful Egypt feel...
Great decor. Chicken kabob was tender and well seasoned but the rest of the meal had no seasoning. I'd order the kabob if sold separately but wouldn't bother with the rest of the meal.
Great atmosphere. Great location. Kind service. Good, unique menu. Unique drink menu. Medium portions. To go boxes. Great value. Inexpensive. Do recommend. Will return. I stopped by for lunch. They immediately greeted and sat me. They just opened and I was the only one there. Everything was made to order. Everything was correct and delicious. I ordered things I'd never heard of before, and way too many for one person. It's a basement unit with a calming, Egyptian vibe. Bathrooms need work, but it's not a problem. Thanks for a great meal.
The BEST customer service!! My husband and I stopped in for a quick bite before a play at the Keller Auditorium. We had drinks and appetizers, but had to leave before the main course arrived, to ensure we made it to the show on time. We paid, thinking that was it, but the owner was kind enough to keep our food until after the show was over, which was 15 mins after they closed. He not only boxed up our main course, but also included our salad and appetizers we didn't finish. Amazing service!
The owner is absolutely adorable and so sweet reminds me of my European grandparents and the service was personal, but the food was terrible! Hummus was okay. Meat was very bland. The lamb was 1/2 fat and difficult to chew, did not sit well in my stomach was nauseas all night. Rice was plain white rice cooked in water. No flavor whatsoever. Veggies were the kind you get in a bag baby carrots broccoli and cauliflower, didn’t look fresh, didn’t taste good. No seasoning. Salad was American romaine lettuce. Sadly, this was disappointing. I love Egyptian food and wanted to give this place a chance, but this wasn’t authentic food at all.
Never had egyptian food before. Went for lunch, spent probably $11-15 for lunch and appetizer and it ended up being more than I could handle. The environment was fantastic, mostly because it was quiet and I dig that. There was a sexy looking full service bar that I didn't engage. Bringing some friends from the office next time.
This was unfortunate, as it was the most mediocre restaurant experience I've had in Portland. This place must have had its hey day, but the owner has last his passion and lustre and replaced it with bland, unseasoned dishes, cheap ingredients, and an over priced menu. Thought we found a decent hidden gem without crowds near Schnitzer Concert Hall, but it's clear why we were only one of two couples there during a prime dinner hour. Avoid. At least until the owner turns things around, Gordon Ramsey style.
This place was pretty good. Love the owner- super nice. Decor makes you feel like your in a Egyptian museum... I thought the food was tasty. Would definitely come back for the Egyptian themed cocktails!
Visit this restaurant today , we were walking by and saw the restaurant name since we loved middle eastern food , I thought why not try it , what a terrible mistake ! Atmosphere, decor & music seems fun, the older sweet man that came to our table , ended up been our server, bartender, cook and the prep person , Opps ! First bad sign things were not right ! Salad was an old supermarket bagged salad, awful taste , but the worst was to come in the main entrees! Oh my god ! Vegetables were frozen & cold & raw still, meat was cold and to be honest didn’t smell good at all. We brought this to the owner and unfortunately were completely ignored and we wanted to leave and leave all the food there ! I agreed to pay for our drinks and cold not good appetizers, and some for the food since the older man seemed to be embarrassed and knowingly about how bad the food is in his restaurant Please , don’t eat at this restaurant ever , a drink or beer : yes , food: never I recommended the owner to really look into why is he selling food if the restaurant doesn’t have the capacity, staff and or Desire ! It’s definitely not ok ! I paid him , but the real issue here is that he can’t be doing this to patrons ! His business will not last long !
