Natural Lands' Bear Creek Preserve

One of my favorite places to hike in NEPA. Trails are well maintained and have a variety of lengths and difficulties. You can easily go through the woods, skirt by marshlands, take a seat by the falls or at the scenic overlook, and find the clearing and enjoy the bird songs. The only real downside is that it's easy to hear traffic off in the distance.

Did a 7 mike loop hike on 1/7/18, one of the coldest days this year . It was 1 degree when I got out my car and I don’t know what wind chill was. Trails are as people have been publishing, “very well marked”, even in breaking blazing trail in 6” of snow. Seemed to be a mixture of solitary trails and backroad access that made up the trail system. The falls that were touted in brochure were a bit of a disappointment in snow capped frozen creek...wasn’t much of anything to view. The Bear Creek Falls may be on the preserves property but I don’t think accessible through trail system. Now that was a site to see, at least fully frozen it was. I did enjoy the solid tide this section of the woods does provide to the hiker. It has its share of inclines and declines. I did enjoy my hike through this preserve.

Great trails with carting landscape. Everything is well marked and it would be tough to get lost. Difficult is not really that difficult with some loose rock in parts. Have done the red and purple. Purple trail has a great stretch along the Lehigh river.

Great hike with some beautiful small falls, ridgelines and not too strenuous.
