A change is coming!!! I was a member in the past and I definitely would have given this NYSC location Newark bad reviews for several reasons. I recently returned due to a great sign-up special and for the convenience it offered me. They have a new General Manager that has so far proven to be TOP-NOTCH. I had an issue recently and he not only fixed the problem expediently but was also very apologetic. He's extremely professional, customer service oriented and actually cares about the members. I never got that feeling from management in the past. He made me realize I made the right decision to give this gym another try. Also, the staff is very friendly and courteous. It's really worth giving this location a shot!

wow - watch your contract closely. Right above the signature line, the fine print states the gym can alter your monthly fee when they desire. I had a month-to-month and saw rates increase from a 12 month $19.95 a month to $31.95, plus an "alumni" fee of $75.00. Costs an additional $10.00 to cancel membership. This gym WILL raise your monthly rates - expect it.

Extremely nice staff. Spacious gym. Good music. Yes, I'd love it to be open later on Saturday - and open at all on Sunday! But I had the same issues in lower Manhattan when I lived there. Once the neighborhood could support the extra hours, the gym I belonged to stayed open more often. But come on, you can't knock NYSC if the weekend is going to be dead. Fingers crossed it stays open more, but it's still a nice gym!!!

If I can give this place a 0 rating I would. Terrible hours, cramp working conditions, and very shady accounting practices. Cancelled my membership in Feb, and continued to be charged for personal training sessions in March and April. Here is a kicker, was also charge for a total of three personal training session in April as well haven't been to the gym in months and cancelled both memberships in person. They do not have a 30 day notice policy either so they kept charging me. This place will steal your credit card information! Had to contact my CC and report fraudulent activity twice from the NYSC. Finally, they just gave me a new CC not to deal with this place anymore. Do not recommend

Canceled membership and was told there would be no more billing and they continued to bill my card. When I called he told me the person who told me that I would not be charged again must not have known what they were talking about. Be careful with them if you are on auto payment.

NYSC seem not to value their members. I understand organizations are taking steps to protect due to virus. However NYSC seem not to have had any game plan/ lack management skill. They closed the Gateway gym without even an alert to client nothing to state steps they are taking how members can retrieve their stuff from locker, no posted signs ...NOTHING!!!....VERY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

Mangers are irresponsible, only good for if you know your routine and need a place to use the equipment. This location is the worse managed the location, Please NEVER Take PT Sessions from here the management will roll you in reoccurring payments and money might not be refunded.. Peter Wards is high unprofessional and Irresponsible Manager.

SCAM ARTISTS!!! Signed up for month to month membership 3 years ago because I worked across the street and commuted in. Haven't been there in 2 years.. Requested transferring to a different NYSC after getting a different job 2 hours away from this location. This was refused. Requested cancellation via Email and was told to go to any NYSC to cancel 'IN PERSON'. Went to another NYSC and was told I have to go to the Penn Station Location. 1 hour away and only has access via public transportation Called and tried to cancel again only to be told the only way I can cancel is to come in and speak to the MANAGER? THIS IS A SCAM. If I knew it would be this hard to cancel I never would have signed up. In addition when I signed up it was 30$ somehow I am now being charged 42$ AND was hit with an extra 50$ fee the other month? I have changed debit cards and they somehow managed to get access to the new card. STAY AWAY FROM NYSC NEWARK PENN STATION!!!!!!!

Decent enough equipment, but shady accounting. Also terrible hours. Not open late, not open Sunday, bad hours Saturday, supposed to open at 6am but don't count on it writing this while yet again waiting for it to open. It's cheap and I guess you get what you pay for.
