By far the best nigiri we have ever had! Excellent food and service in an intimate setting. We would absolutely recommend visiting Nimblefish for omakase and will return next time we are in Portland. Make a reservation in advance for weekend dining!Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: No
Others have left reviews saying the food here wasn't great. I'd say I've certainly had worse food for twice as much money with worse service. Not everything we had was spectacular, but 80% of it was, and the tamago and salmon were insanely good. One of the two owners was our chef and host, and was super nice and friendly, and answered any questions we had. I wouldn't hesitate to come back again next time I'm in town and and am thankful I got to experience this restaurant and it's staff and food.
Honestly, I was quite disappointed at this restaurant. Food here is fishy. From recent reviews, it seems the chef is not here often so maybe that is the reason? Tamago is good but it cost extra; not included in omakase. Maybe I had too much expectation but just FYI, I feel this is an overrated place.
The omakase was great, the chefs were very good about explaining each piece they served and very chatty
Dinner at Nimblefish was truly amazing. The chef Design's an Omakase menu that is 11 courses from the best freshest ingredients and is then fallowed by soup and dessert. You can revisit something's you liked and explore new ones after the guided tour from the chef, do take advantage of it. Everything is made with care pride and precision. This was my first time eating sushi of this caliber and I was blown away. Yes it's a bit spendy but trust me when I say "totally worth it". It's bout the experience and the food not just one or the other. I was privileged to sample Firefly Squid that is available fresh only 6 weeks of the year and is drought in from sea of Japan. That is just one of the 11 dishes. I would also like to send a shout-out to Ren from Albatross Tattoo for setting this experience up for me, thak you Sir. Remember as always, be mindful, happy and the best you. You only go around one, so do it well.
I don't hand out 5 stars often, I actually hate doing it because it leaves no room to improve. That said, Nimblefish is deserving of every star. The sushi is absolutely top notch. The chefs are informative and clearly care about their craft. It is expensive but if you have the means, it's worth every bit.Food: 5/5
Nimblefish was the best date night my wife and I have had in a long time. The sushi was some of the best we've ever had. Each bite was perfectly curated in front of us. You could tell our chef was so knowledgeable and talented. She really made our experience great! Try the trevally Jack fish, if they have it, and the tamago was incredible. Totally worth every penny. Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating to dietary restrictions.
What a wonderful experience! We are visiting Portland from Charlotte, NC and going to Nimblefish for omakase was one of the meals we were most looking forward to. Nimblefish did not disappoint!! The decor is spare but warm and intimate. The sushi chef was very knowledgeable and engaging, and we really enjoyed sitting at the counter and watching everything being assembled. Every bite we had was absolutely delicious. We love sushi but had several types of fish that we'd never tried as nigiri before. Also liked that you have the option to add on additional pieces after sampling the core menu for the evening. Overall a really special experience and some of the best sushi we've ever had. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Portland!!
Intimate experience with pretty your own private sushi chef for a couple of hours. The omakase experience is exceptional, with chef preparing each course as a unique piece of edible art. At the end of the performance, you can select more of your favorite fish art a la cart. Pair with a few light beers and your best friend for a night you will not soon forget.
Nimblefish requires no praise it has not already gotten, and certainly not from me. But the entire experience at Nimblefish is one that I’ve found so rarely in the city that it still feels worth singing it’s praises. First and foremost: the staff, from the greet to the departure, is so welcoming, so willing to share their thoughts, and so on top of every detail They’ll let you sit and enjoy your meal without interruption if that’s the experience you’re looking for; but if you come with questions of any kind they’ll educate you, talk shop, or provide the best recommendations to make your experience memorable and pleasurable. Second, but also first: the sushi. Is. The. Best. In. Portland. Omakase - there is nothing I’ve had here that comes close. I look forward to finding that second place spot, but until then this remains in a category of its own here. And third: the omakase menu is incredible: but plan to get a few more - follow a local’s lead or maybe more importantly let the chef tell you what’s good today. And then stick around, order another sake, and enjoy the best the ocean can curate by your friends at Nimblefish.
