Nios, Electrolysis Permanent Hair Removal Center

AVOID / DO NOT GO I had been going to Nios for regular monthly appointments since June of 2020 without much issue. After a session in January 2022 I was left with significant visible scarring. This was my last session with their old machines. Immediately after the session I noticed pitting, and then large scabs developed not like the occasional pinpoint scabbing that electrolysis can cause, these were about the size of dimes. I was concerned and took proper care of the scabs, and made Nios and my technician aware after the session. I am not someone who typically scars or is prone to scarring. I was told that any visible marks would resolve within 6 months. So I applied scar gels twice a day, every day for 6 months. Unfortunately at the 6-month mark it was clear that these scars would very likely be permanent. I contacted Nios in August to let them know and see if there was any protocol on their end to resolve this. I even provided photos of the scars. Initially I was told that my technician would have to talk with Dr Gordon. I played phone and email tag with them for months and didn't get any sort of substantial answer until the very end of November 2022, after I requested a response in writing. I was then told I could "see a dermatologist, consider using mederma, wait another 6-12 month as scarring does take time to fade". I've been using scar gels and silicone sheets for months at this point. The scars are still very much visible. I was also offered a $250 voucher to use at Nios why would I go back?, yet there hasn't been any kind of offer of a refund or even refunding the leftover sessions from the package I hard purchased. I am going to have to spend more money out of pocket on scar revision treatments with a dermatologist to reduce the visibility and texture of my scarring caused by the negligence at Nios. I am more than disappointed, I feel defeated and disfigured. As someone who is not prone to scarring and having had no issues for dozens of treatments, as well as Nios claiming on their website that they are "ONE OF THE LARGEST AND MOST EXPERIENCED ELECTROLYSIS CENTERS IN THE WORLD", this is something that should have never happened. I should not have been left with large, significant, permanent scars. The texture of my skin in the scarred area is now rough and bumpy like touching braille from all of the pinpoint scarring. There is one scar in particular that is large and very noticeable. All of this from one bad session. The scars are all in the center of my torso, and are therefore very noticeable. I am now too embarrassed to take my shirt off or be in situations where I could be shirtless, like going to the beach or pool, changing at the gym, or sleeping with someone. I came to Nios to feel comfortable and confident in my body, and trusted them with all my treatments, but now I'm left wishing I had never come here at all. I am currently lying on the table at Nios getting electrolysis on the stomach, and I must say I feel so safe with these Electrologists. Everyone here is helpful, kind, and mindful of what the process is like for the client. They always ask, “are you ok? How are you feeling?” In addition, their clientele includes a lot of trans folks and I myself am trans- I feel very affirmed and respected for who I am. I have been going to Nios for about 6 months. I have tried other staff members but Patricia is hands down the best in my opinion. I have seen a huge decrease in hair from the area we have targeted. If you have PCOS this method works, just need to be consistent. She lets you set the goal for your session and she delivers. She uses a combination of methods to reach your hair removal goals. She prioritizes your comfort. She provides numbing and checks in to make sure you're doing ok through out your session. She's very knowledgeable and suggests ways to improve your skin. She's very polite, accommodating and very funny. She's very personable and she has a genuine interest in what she does. I can't recommend her enough!! Other notes: The spa is clean and the front desk staff is always nice & accommodating. They send appointment reminders before hand so you dont miss an appointment. It is also great to see such a diverse staff. Being of color myself, it makes me feel more comfortable to be in the hands of my own people. Electrolysis is painful, there's no sugarcoating it, so be mindful of that should you decide on this service. Also tip your technicians, this job is physically demanding and tedious.

My experience at Nios was great! I believe the young lady that treated me was named Meg. Very kind and down to earth young lady. The beautiful receptionist that they have at the front desk was extremely sweet and helpful. I look forward to my next appointment just to chat with her

Been trying to get treatment records from this place with no response. I moved home and needed a new therapist - had to start from scratch as I had no historical records to share as my requests have been ignored. Needless to say it has made me question what treatment I undertook at Nios. The electrolysis is totally different at the new place and already extremely effective, significantly cheaper and does not require as frequent visits. The people who work at Nios are very nice, pleasant, but you can’t get information when you need it and I can’t explain why these services are so different! ‍

I had a great clinician but I could not book another session with her. Her appointments are taken for the near future and after that I was told her book was not open and no one knew when it would open but I could be on a waiting list. I also could keep calling and calling and maybe get lucky. Unfortunately I do have a life and a schedule, so while the clinician was great Nios does not function well. To Nios's credit, after my review someone from NIOS called me, noted my appointment request, and reserved it for me. Furthermore, he called a second time to ask if I wanted an additional appointment. Now that is really caring service!

First time visiting facility and as soon as I walked in, not even a hello by Britney or Kim the office workers. After standing up for 5 minutes I took it upon myself to find a seat. Not even a please sit down I got. Atmosphere is cold as ice. The only nice lady was the one attending my son. She even asked me to come in. She has a warmth about her and a nice smile. Would I recommend this place? Nope

This place is amazing! Always the best professional friendly service. I have been Coming here for two years or more and they are consistent with providing you with great service. They offer many discounts that make their services more affordable, and for those who can’t afford it at all they offer student Eletrolosis services at 90% off. I could not imagine going anywhere else for my Eletrolosis need.

I'm not going to lie, my first every Experiance with Nios was not so impressive or inviting, I was brought in And worked on by someone that wasn't very passionate about the work that they had did in my opinion so I immediately assumed that she would not put forth her best efforts on the work she would do on me. Low and behind, that's exactly what happened. Later on that week or maybe that following week, I was made client to Jessica who is now my personal electrologist and I must tell you, she's a Doll!!!!! There is so many things I can say about her but I'll just keep things short and sweet. Even tho In the beginning, things didn't go so well for me, Jessica has been just that awesome to me where she makes up for the small flaws that I have Experienced in the past. And also, we cannot forget about my Kimmy. She's entirely too sweet and adoring, big ups to her as well. These two individuals makes Nios shine bright like a diamond in my opinion.

My experience here has been with Robin. I have been a client for quite some time. I have never been disappointed. Robin is skilled and knowledgeable. She makes the visit as pleasant and painless as electrolysis can be. The results are amazing, LGBT friendly, the office is clean and inviting. Easily accessible from the A,B,C,D,N,Q,R,1 trains at Columbus circle.
