We had lunch at Nite Hawk Cafe and the food was so flavourful that we went back the same day for supper! I ordered the Buffalo Blue Chicken Burg and Goat Cheese Burg—each had a generous amount of cheese. They were out of roasted red pepper for the latter so I took our server's suggestion and substituted jalapeños - yum. The house cut fries are a must-try with vinegar, and the dill dip was very tasty with the Classic Cactus Cuts. Service was friendly and prompt despite the bustling restaurant. The screened patio was also lovely.
A very well, hidden gem, at least to this reviewer, in the Whiteshell area of Manitoba. A friend and I had frequented this area often every summer, but had always went to the same restaurant /lounge at west hawk lake. On this day, however, serendipity Would have that the establishment we frequented was closed on Monday. We looked across the street and saw the night Hawk Café. Deciding that we needed to get something to eat we headed over there and were pleasantly surprised with the ambiance and enthusiasm of the serving staff. We sat out in there, fully covered and enclosed Deck area. The service was wonderful and, as stated, very enthusiastic. These days it’s hard to get serving staff due to Covid, but at the nighthawk they manage to not only have serving staff that were very attentive, but pleasant to deal with. The food was quite good. My friend had both soups that were on Offer. A borsch and a split pea soup. He said both were very good. I, however, went for one of their specialty hotdogs. The spicy version that had banana peppers, jalapeños, a spicy sauce, onions, and cheese. On an open face bun. I also had a Caesar salad with my meal. We shared a pitcher of beer due to the waitresses recommendation that if we were going to have two each it was cheaper to get the pitcher. Nice touch :- I found their prices to be reasonable. Their service to be wonderful. And their establishment to be clean and well-kept. I will definitely be going there again.
Some of the best and most interesting burgers you can get in Manitoba! The ghost cheese burger is the favorite of one of the groups I spend time with, and the big kahuna pineapple and stuff is the second favorite. They are generally quite busy, so expect a wait, though one time we were able to skip the line by ordering online. Vegetarian options: They have a few options with no meat, that all sound quite tasty. Parking: Parking has never been a problem here when I've been there, a wide gravel lot with picnic tables scattered around it for those with dogs or who would prefer to eat outside. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a long and fairly wide ramp of solid wood construction with a sturdy hand rail.
Went here the other evening. They have an app! I ordered via phone but was able to view their menu online. They have ample seating indoors, as well as outdoors. We sat on the boulevard at the picnic tables. Everything is set up with distance in mind, clean and a nice place to eat. There are 2 washrooms. They were clean and stocked. Ample parking with ramp and stairs to get in to the establishment. There is a pick up window from the outside, so you don't need to go in to get your food if you've ordered pick-up. Upon entering, the staff seems to be in their own world and doesn't pay attention to folks standing at the door, or at least that was my experience. Maybe they were just focused on the task at hand but I had 2 staff pass by me and said nothing. Everyone was at least working. An acknowledgement would have been nice. The staff person who took my order over the phone was so helpful. I was able to order off the menu but wanted to know the flavour options for the sundae, she listed many and it helped me make a decision! Food is tasty but portions are on the small side. Their home fries were disappointing. Soggy, greasy, no crisp. I wouldn't return here for fries. Their cats cuts were nice and crispy, and tasty too! The menu had a lot of vegetarian options seems rare these days...all burgers can be made with their beyond the meat patty and they had a vegan option for many things too--grilled cheese, sub cheese for hummus! Very impressed to see the variety on their menu. Would be willing to try something else next time. The sundaes were delish and the serving was generous. Parking is ample. Located conveniently to the left upon entering from the highway. Seems like the nicely spot, especially if you want to sit in. I'd go here again and try something different!
We arrived at the Nite Hawk Cafe for Thursday Steak night at 5pm. When taking drink orders, the waitress had “never heard of” a beer that was listed on the drink menu, not a good sign of things to come. When placing my steak order, I was informed that Steak Night did not start until 5:30pm. Under pressure to order something else, I order the Fish and Chips. The Fish was incredibly over cooked and over battered and was possibly the worse fish and chips I had ever had. The chips were also dry and overcooked leading me to think that the cook had fallen asleep at the deep fryer. Then instead of asking if I would like another beer, the waitress dropped off the bill while my wife was half way done her meal. She did enjoy her salad, apart from feeling rushed to finish despite the dining room being mostly empty. Perhaps they were getting ready for the big Steak Night rush? LOL. A terrible dining experience.
The food is pretty good. Whomever created the dishes on the menu has some great creativity with flavors. The maple bacon burger and Buffalo chicken wraps are very tasty. Portions are too small for the price unfortunately. That is my only complaint. For $20 I expect a little more than a tablespoon of coleslaw and a handful of fries with my burger or wrap.
*** MUST EAT - BEST BURGERS IN WEST HAWK LAKE *** came here after a long day boating at caddy lake, has the best burgers in the area! Hands down - so juicy and the veggies are fresh as can be! PROS • in door and out door patio dining is allowed here • best burgers without a doubt, doesn't disappoint • fries are crunchy, on the less saltier side, so make sure you add sauces or salt to it if you want more flavor. • parking available in the front of building • has seperate enterance for indoor dining & another opening for take out orders • also serve ice cream - perfect on those hot dry Manitoba days. CONS • always busy so make sure you reserve a head of time this is my third time eating here, whenever I'm in the area, you best bet this is the better place to eat!
The peanut butter burger was the most amazing burger I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to go back to try some more of their delicious food. It was very busy when I went but the service was still excellent nevertheless. HIGHLY recommend!
Excellent restaurant! Good atmosphere and good selection on the menu. I enjoyed the cold brew coffee, and the steak night special NY Strip was well seasoned and tender. Will definitely stop in again next time I’m at West Hawk Lake.
The Nite Hawk is one of my favourite restaurants, not just in the Whiteshell, but in Manitoba. Located in West Hawk Lake, it’s a convenient place to enjoy lunch or dinner while camping or hiking in the area. I recently visited during the first week of July and enjoyed their delicious Beyond Burger with a side of French Fries on a gluten free bun. Everything tasted fantastic! Their fries are among the best I’ve eaten and were so perfectly cooked. The burger was also amazing and the gluten free bun was so soft. The service is always friendly and prompt. They have seating inside in the nice air conditioning and on the covered screened in patio. The menu is extensive and offers lots of options for vegetarians/vegans/gluten free and these are marked. Their cactus cuts fries are also incredible! I will continue to frequent this restaurant on my travels to the Whiteshell! Always look forward to coming here.
