Open Jar Studios is perfect for serious artists. Big, clean, ventilated rooms with pianos and there's even a lounge space to take breaks and have a bite to eat. Great view over the Broadway street life. Just awesome. Super friendly staff, too!
Literally the best week of my life. I have gained so much confidence in myself as a performer and as a person. My journey in theatre going forward will never be the same again because of Open Jar. If you’ve thought about going into theatre as a career, PLEASE AUDITION FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!
My daughter, Danielle, thoroughly enjoyed her week at Open Jar Institute this Summer. She could not say enough about the amazing staff and teaching artists!!!! My interaction with staff was fabulous. They were helpful, friendly and caring. It is clear that each person cares TREMENDOUSLY about the health, safety AND growth / educational experience of each and every student. The variety of Broadway shows they selected for the students to see was incredible. If you want to elevate your training in any or all aspect of musical theatre, you should definitely audition for Open Jar. It will be a will be a week you will remember always.
I will try my best to describe my amazing week at the Open Jar Institute. From the moment I arrived, the staff and students were so welcoming and helpful. Every day, the workshops challenged me and pushed me to be my best. The Broadway shows in the evening were all spectacular. I have made so many lifelong friends during the week from all over the world. Even though we worked very hard, we had so much fun. I cannot thank Mr. Whiting and the entire Open Jar staff enough for making this a memorable week that taught me so many life lessons that I have already applied in my life back home. Because of the Open Jar Institute and the staff, I was able to “open the lid of my jar” to become a more confident performer and I realized that I was limitless.
Open Jar Institute had to be one the best experiences of my life. The moment I first met all of the staff, I knew I was going to feel welcome and taken care of for the entire week. It took less than 30 minutes to make friends that I still keep in touch with ever since. The opportunities we had during the program were amazing. Taking classes with working performers, directors, choreographers, such as Jeff Whiting and James Gray, were very informative and intense and gave me a small glimpse at what I could experience in my future as a performer. After eating at Hurley's every night, we would go see some of the best shows on Broadway: An American in Paris, Something Rotten, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, and Hamilton. Some of the performers in the shows would then come and teach us the following day. I was given the chance to do and learn some amazing things I never had the opportunity to do. With just one week in the city, my dreams were reaffirmed, and I gained the confidence to take my next steps on the way to become a performer. Thank you so much, Jeff Whiting, James Gray, and the rest of the Open Jar staff!
Thank you, Open Jar Institute! Attending Jeff Whiting’s Broadway-integrated actor training program gave me a new sense of self-confidence and possibility in my dreams that I never knew I could possess. I loved being surrounded by performers who were as passionate as I am, while taking beneficial master classes all week from professionals, seeing Broadway shows, and gaining knowledge about the real world of theatre. From the very beginning, I felt the Open Jar energy; I felt able to let go and try new things, letting go of old limitations. Everyone I met was so positive and they all wanted to help us grow. Being surrounded by peers who also want to move to NYC after college makes the idea seem a little less daunting. Truly, the dream of being a working actor seems infinitely much more possible because of this week. It was such a blessing to get to learn and grow beside such passionate, talented, kind and truly wonderful individuals. If you’re considering going to the Open Jar Institute, GO. #limitless
Open Jar was by far the best week of my life! You work with some of the best, most talented, and kindest people that the industry has to offer! Along with absorbing a substantial amount of audition prep, We learned so much about the business that I would have never known without attending this wonderful institute. I left Open Jar so inspired and made memories that will last a lifetime. Such a great experience!
Very noisy place. I rented a studio to record an audition, but the screaming, singing, laughing, and loud conversation in the hallways left me with not one usable take. I won’t be going there again.
Incredible experience. One-on-one work with PROFESSIONAL Broadway actors, dancers, singers, choreographers, casting directors, and agents. After attending Open Jar, I feel ten steps ahead of everyone else who also shares the same dream as me to work in the Broadway world professionally. I learned things about myself, other actors, other people and other shows that I never could have guessed I would learn. An overall amazing staff, amazing experience, and an amazing week.
A life changing experience! I have always had a huge passion for musical theatre and I was in heaven the entire week. From learning from Broadway's best to seeing 4 incredible shows to the mock audition, this is an experience unlike any other! All of this wouldn't be possible without the wonderful Jeff Whiting. He is such a sweet man who inspires me to jump out of my jar and to be confident. Thank you Jeff for creating this incredible program! And huge thanks to all involved! I hope to be back again!
