This has been a terrible experience from the start, they always run behind, like an hour + even if you come first thing in the morning. The billing is always off and no one in the office can help you, they say you have to call the payments line. Okay. But, the main thing is they seem to have no idea what they are doing. In 8 months of using steroids in my eyes not a single person told me not to wear contacts because it can cause infectionmy optometrist told me this the moment I changed to them being my primary care for my Uveitis and was appalled a specialist office hadn't mentioned it once to me They watched me put in contacts in the office every 2 weeks/month for many months. On one visit they put random drops in my eyes instead of dilation drops, they still don't know what they put in my eyes. Upon one of my first visits someone put the wrong instructions on my drops, so instead of my eye getting better it developed a tolerance to the steroid drops making the process take twice as long to heal. I will avoid this place at all costs if possible. See your local Optometrist first before ever coming here. You're just a bill here.
All the receptionist are worthless. They do not know how to do their job and they criticize the patients. The OLD fat lady with short white hair from inside the office in 5th floor of Havener has no manner and says straight in front of the patient "I do not understand why this patients are given 100% financial aid discount when they have insurance and here to see out of network physician". Now here is the thing you have no idea how much I have to drive from my place to Columbus, Ohio to see the eye physician. I see the same physician for some reason which I do not prefer to explain and you have no right to ask me. Was it a act of discrimination since I am an Asian American?! I was insulted in front of all the other patients and their family members, I was standing on line for 20 minutes just for the staff members because they did not know how to do their job. The receptionist, Samantha NJ is worthless. Sitting on chair like a headless chicken because she was either not trained or she does not know how to do her job.
My daughter went to the Ohio State Havener Eye Institute for many years! Her Drs. Flemming and Dr. Wells were the best. Although she was a diabetic they still encouraged her to eat right!! They did everything they could to save her eyesight but being a diabetic took its toll. She had one eye removed because the pain was so bad and a prothetic eye put in! Unfortunately I lost my daughter in April! I would recommend this Eye Institute to anyone with eye problems!!
The staff was very nice and the nurse that took us back. My husband was coming in for GVHD post transplant after leukemia so obviously we were very anxious to speak with the doctor . Dr. Kuennen was very much in a hurry right away. It almost seemed as if she came in to check us out to leave. I was in tears… she did not ask us if we had questions or concerns. I had to ask many questions as she was pushing us out the door. Very very disappointed due to our other positive experience at OSU James.
Long long wait times...checking in at 9:45 am. Initial exam in under 30 minutes. Imaging done in 20 minutes....then 2+ hour wait to see a doctor. You would think they would be better organized than this.
The doctor is fantastic however the disregard for patients time is unheard of. At my husband last appointment he waited 5 hours to see the doctor. His appointment time was 3pm and did not see the Dr til after 8PM. RIDICULOUS!!!!
Dr Ford is the absolute best ophthalmologist. She’s kind, compassionate, personable and did everything she could to help with my issue. When it was discovered that I had a problem a little out of her expertise, she referred me to another specialist and made sure I got an appointment ASAP. I will continue to see her for follow-up care. I’ve seen a few ophthalmologists before. Dr Ford’s approach to personable patient care won me over. Her assistant, Amber, as well as the other medical and ophthalmology technicians are very sweet and caring!
My primary optometrist said that I needed to see a specialist for some eye swelling that has been slow to clear up. She set up the appointment. I Saw Dr. Mendoza at Havener who performed another eye exam and then cave me a copy of a printout of over the counter eye moisturizers that I could try. She then scheduled a return visit. A week passes and I got the bill. I fell out of my chair when I saw that it was $516. This was a quick exam with nothing prescribed. It provided no added value or assurances over what my primary provider was able to do. Please be sure to call in first and ask how much your visit will cost so that you do not get a "Merry Christmas" surprise like I did. BTW, I cancelled my follow up visit. Earlier this year I got a bill for $4,000 for 4 stitches on my little finger at a FL center while on vacation. It cost more than the entire vacation for my family. Medical costs are out of control. I did get a follow up email from Havener asking for me to call to discuss my post. I called. I was told the person that I needed to speak to was out. I was asked about the post. I explained the high bill did not jive with the services rendered and that I would like a reduction in charges. The rep said she would pass it along. Several weeks have passed. No contact. Only bills looking for full charges. O-H, oh no!?
I went to get a yearly exam for my eyes because I'm a diabetic, and they did the tests and this doctor said she didn't see anything wrong, but I'm still having problems with my vision . I have to wear readers to see and drive. All this doctor talks about is wearing readers. I want to know if I need prescription glasses. I didn't get no answer.
This place is terrible. I sat waiting 90 minutes while they sorted out insurance issues that we COULD HAVE DONE OVER THE PHONE only to be told I'd have to pay $175 out of pocket. Like most OSU places, this place is a joke
