Been coming here since 1998. Had my 1st Ramos gin fizz here! Longest running bar in New Orleans. Nice fireplace. The back room renovated bar was featured on Led Zeppelins, "In the Out Door" album covers!
A cool and fun experience for any first timers trying absinthe. I particularly liked the walls of business cards and the football helmets hanging on the ceiling. These are pretty unique decors I must say. My spouse, friends and I paid a visit yesterday and was immediately greeted by a bartender. We ordered the drinks and she put on a little show, watching her preparing the absinthe drinks was an eye-opener. Our bartender wasn’t exactly the friendliest but it was end of the shift for her so, I’m assuming she was in a rush to get out of there. Taste wise, not for me. Absinthe tastes like liquorice candy and I’m not a fan of that. We spent $77USD for four drinks, that came down to roughly $20usd per drink which is as expensive as a cocktail at a 5-star hotel. I understand this place has a lot of history and personality so I would highly recommend it to whoever wants to visit a historical place in New Orleans at the French Quarters. Credit cards/cash accepted here.
Super helpful staff, great experience, a little pricey for the drinks but very chill. The bartenders were super super helpful! Definitely recommend if your looking for a very strong drink.
Visited on a Wednesday evening, and the bar was pretty full - we were able to make room for the 2 of us. Ordered a couple beers and the California absinthe - they lit it on fire to serve! Tasted like black licorice, and you could hardly taste the alcohol! Enjoyed the service and atmosphere. If you get a chance to stop by, look up the history before visiting- pretty cool!
This is a bar with tons of history and personality. It's a must-do every time we visit New Orleans. We enjoy coming here for the atmosphere and to people watch. It's right on Bourbon Street where all the action happens. When you visit, you've got to try the absinthe.
Amazing place. I wish I could put into words a good description of this place but it's tough! Imagine an island of peace in the middle of chaos. This small and uncrowded place is just what you need if you need a break from Burbon Street. The drinks are good, the staff is friendly, and the absinthe is very tasty. So many to choose from and knowledgeable staff to help you choose the right one for you.
Very interesting experience, and true to New Orleans. I had to try the Absinthe, even though I loathe black licorice. The bartender was friendly, foul-mouthed which is fine with me, and very open about why absinthe tastes like and how it makes you feel. I would go back, just for the buzz.
I brought my team here during a conference- an essential stop on any Bourbon Street trek. It’s always someone’s first time trying absinthe, so they love the little ritual. Bartender was pretty gruff, but this did not detract from my appreciation of him- fast and efficient and getting the job done on a random Monday night.
Nice little bar, servers paying more attention to their phone than to the guest, however, I got a second beer finally. Place is small, not a lot of room. Ice scoop and a bottle of something left on top of ice in the well. Place needs a good high dusting. Not sure what's up with all the business cards, but, I bet there is a beautiful wall behind them screaming to be seen, or maybe there is no wall. In closing, I wouldn't order anything but pre bottled and/or canned stuff.
Yall have to try this place out, they make their batter and sauces homemade. The bread comes from a bakery in Louisiana. So there po boys are authentic. The owner and waiter are super nice. Plus it's a locally owned restaurant. Go get some great food and help a local owned business. We had the gator balls, shrimp po boys. First pic is half sandwich, 2nd pic is whole sandwich.
