I love the food at this local Greek restaurant. The gyros are amazing and I love that they have outdoor seating. Certainly something that Avon doesn't have enough of. The staff is always friendly, food is always fantastic. The only reason I gave this a 4 star instead of 5 is that d the last few times I have sat outside I would receive my meal well before our bottle of wine. Drinks tend to come out on the slow side. If you love good Greek food, just sit at the bar and have dinner and you’ll be in good shape.
While visiting my friend who lives about 50 minutes from Opa! we decided to satisfy our craving for Greek food - definitely worth the drive! We were immediately greeted and seated in the fun atmosphere - felt like we escaped to Greece with all the wrap around scenery and music. Started our dinner with the cold grape leaf appetizer which we devoured - so delicious. I enjoyed the chicken shish kabob which comes with a Greek salad and the traditional sides of rice pilaf, Greek potatoes and green beans. My friend got the Greek chicken which was an enormous portion. We didn't leave room for dessert which looked amazing. I highly recommend and am looking forward to visiting on my next trip to Indy!!
Man, how I wish this place was closer to home. Is it worth an hour drive? Maybe once a year. Gyro platter, not a fan of the rice and green beans, poor portions of gyro meat but the meat is incredible 5 star. The flaming cheese is 5 star. The host was nice, and only 15 minutes place was packed I love the decor, server seem disorganized and disoriented at times, maybe she was on to much of that . I was hesitant on 4 stars, fix the meat portion and it’s 5 stars all day.
I have heard good things about OPA and recently, I went with my family to grab some lunch. I was kind of skeptical at first but the experience as a whole was way better then I imagined! Here’s how it went: Pros: The food was excellent! I got the Gyro Burger as a change to see if Gyro meat is my thing. Surprisingly, the gyro meat was super tasty! It added some extra flavors to the burger itself and overall was super impressive! The fries, they were decent. The service was also super great. Cons: Nothing to worry about! OPA gets a good 5 out of 5!
Ok two times definitely a winner. Love Opa! Do you ever visit a restaurant and have that first time experience and say you so want to visit again? Second visit turns out to be meh? Not for me and actually want to go again soon to explore the choices passed over. Both visits we started with the Flaming Saganaki. Perfect each time. We also ordered half mini cheese and spinach pie’s appetizer again that was served perfectly. Leaned a bit more to the spinach but that is just me as both very flavorful. Thought about trying another option for main course as so many were tempting , but went right back to Makaronda Kefte. You really should try their Kefte as offered in a few different plates. The combination of sauce and pasta again perfect. My only wish would be a few more Kefte but portion size in line, especially with the quality of the dish. Service spot on and setting with outside option also added to a great experience. I can see why Opa! received so much write up and great reviews.
Visited 10/29/22 Lunch time I was craving some Spanakopita, decided to try an “authentic” Greek place. Walking in the place was eye catching; looking around seeing the decor. Staff greeted us promptly and sat us out outside. The hostess asked if we wanted to sit in the sun or not. We chose no sun, we wished we’d sat in the sun, but I was super happy she asked. The patio had about 10 to 15 tables. It was a nice set up and I would think if it was full of people it wouldn’t be too crowded. They had lights strung around; I would think at night it would give a good ambience for dinner. They had a couple external heaters thankfully we didn’t need any heaters. I was a tightwad and didn’t want to pay their for the Spanakopita so I settled for the the Spinach Pie appetizer. The menu listed 4 pc for $$ but I got 5, again super happy again. I gobbled them up quickly they were so good. The dish came with two blocks of feta. The place was clean. My wife ordered a hamburger. She wasn’t very happy with it. It was dry but when you added the garlic/dill sauce it was way better. You can’t expect perfection on a hamburger when you come to a Greek restaurant. I ordered a chicken quesadilla with feta cheese, peppers, onions, etc. That was delightful. I will be back, over all it was very tasty food and service was amazing and prompt. I even ordered Spanish pies to go. They were gone with in a matter of minutes.
The food was delicious, I loved the atmosphere, and I had no complaints. I tried the lamb chops and spinach quesadillas, and I loved them. After they all sung happy birthday to someone close by us, they threw and shattered a plate on the floor in celebration. My son nearly jumped out of his seat . We enjoyed our visit and will come again soon.
This is not the OPA my family and I remember. The last time we visited was in January 2020, and loved it then as well as the three prior times. Sadly, today was a very disappointing experience. The food was very good. The Appetizer sampler had very delicious options such as the kebabs, Spanikopita, pita, Tzatziki sauce and Gyro meat. The meat was perfectly cooked, the Spanikopita had a perfect balance of spinach and Phyllis, and the kebab meat, both chicken and pork, was juicy. The side salad had lots of vegetables and some dressing but no seasoning. The meals were good but my son's had issues. The tomato sauce had far too much cinnamon which made his Pastistio almost inedible. The French fries were perfectly cooked but it lacked any seasoning and flavor. A crispy outside and soft creamy center, but without salt and seasoning made the fries very bland. My wife's meal of the Lighter side of Gyro was chock full of pita, flavorful gyro meat, Tzatziki sauce and a salad with tomatoes, onions, greens and Greek Seasoning. My wife loved every bite and raved about it. My meal of Moussaka was delicious. The eggplant was perfectly cooked and in between was deliciously seasoned ground beef, and firm yet creamy potatoes, and topped off with a deliciously creamy bechamel sauce and topped with the tomato sauce. The tomato sauce was not as cinnamon forward as my son's which I found strange. The green beans were perfectly cooked, and had a nice dill flavor. I can't figure out why two starches are on the plate. The potatoes are dry and flavorless, and the rice is an afterthought because it lacks any flavor. My suggestion is to have one starch on the plate, and make it taste delicious. Putting two less than average starches on the plate is not a good idea. I can look past the scattered nature of our server, but I cannot look past how dirty our table and the vents were. The drink menu was caked in dirt, and sticky which leads me to believe that it hasn't been cleaned in quite some time. Then in the middle of the table, by the salt and pepper shakers were chunks of feta cheese and a small container left behind by a prior customer. The tops of the salt and pepper shakers were caked in dirt, and bits of salt and pepper were stuck in the dirt which looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. The air vents were caked in dust and has also not been cleaned in quite some time. Then my wife observed an employee cleaning the tables, and that employee failed to clean the middle of the table where the drink menu and salt and pepper shakers were. This explains why the middle of our table was dirty, and why the drink menu hadn't been wiped down. To make matters worse I observed a major lack of passion. When the waiter lit the flaming cheese he had his back turned to the table and just said OPA in a very low monotone voice. I was expecting a loud passionate exclamation of OPA because I know Greeks to be very passionate. Sadly, this waiter who lacked emotion really showcased some overall problems that need to be addressed. If it wasn't for the food tasting so good this rating would have been a 1. And this visit proves no matter how delicious the food is the ambiance and atmosphere can destroy the rating.
Beautiful restaurant but okay food. I had the gyro sandwich and it was kind of dry. Didn't really have any flavor either tbh. I think I've been spoiled by the cuisine in Houston because I have yet to be blown away by any restaurants in Indiana.
We had 51 people on our charter bus, and within a day-and-a-half notice, Opa! gladly served our entire group. Gladly isn't an understatement. The owner came and met us and the waitress was so sweet - stressful as it is to serve a huge group. The food was SO fresh and some of the best Greek food I've ever had and the Greek coffee was outstanding. We were in and out in less than two hours. Absolutely wonderful place to eat!
