I came in to speak with some one regarding my business idea which I had already made a plan for. I was first disappointed at how the front desk treated me. The woman totally disregarded my existence and her words during our conversation were very hurtful. She just had a not so helpful attitude off too. Moving forward meeting with a middle age WHITE MAN in this organization was a bit interesting as well seeing as though this is a place for minorities to receive help. It doesn’t feel very comfortable asking advise from some one who is not a minority and probably doesn’t even understand how scary it is to even attempt to seek help. My business venture was totally for my community and something very helpful for the youth as I expressed my ideas with visual and a 20+ page detailed plan. He told me flat out it made no sense and there was no need for what I wanted to do. He then googled corporations with similar missions and told me blatantly I couldn’t compete with them. PORTLAND seems to always drop the ball in these type of opportunities. It’s extremely unfortunate and mind boggling, how does this experience in anyway help me become who i am meant to be. What have that man any right to belittle me in many ways. I question how he even showed up to get the position. Why was he interested in NOT HELPING THIS “MINORITY WOMAN” I TRULY HOPE MOVING FORWARD in the you generations they come together and CHANGE THE BLACK CULTURE OF PDX
I've attended many other biz networking orgs and have felt isolated, but it's completely the opposite at OAME. I feel the genuine welcoming atmosphere there. The diversity of businesses and race is very inspiring!
A fantastic organization dedicated to the fair treatment of all business and associated people regardless of ethnic origins. I recommend attending a meeting to experience the great and open atmosphere.
A great spot for networking, workshops and micro-loans. Every entrepreneur should attend their Coffee and Issues meeting.
A great organization! Thankful to be a member.
