Worth a short visit if you love old maps and cartography. Not too far out of the city.
Shawn provided an excellent overview of the current exhibit. The personal conversations provided to our small group were appreciated. We learned a lot about the maps in display. I would recommend d visiting g the map.library.
Amazing content. I had a particular interest in the Paul Fink Transportation Game Collection and was not disappointed. Helpful staff and a beautiful reading them help. Osher is great -- for everyone from hardcore cartographic historians to families seeking educational entertainment for the kids. Highly recommended.
I visited the Osher Map Library last weekend. The librarians were incredibly helpful and informative. They pulled some old maps of Portland from the vault for us to look at. The current exhibit on the maps of the Cosmos was interesting and beautiful. I'm looking forward to my next visit.
Interesting, well-curated exhibits, many archived online. Strong overall web presence with hundreds of digital maps. Focus on Maine and the region but thousands of holdings from all eras and from literally all over the world. Helpful staff and well worth a visit!
Great place to go for research and exploring a wide range of cartographic materials. The collection is huge, and I was especially impressed with the globe collection. The staff are very kind and helpful, and I really enjoyed the time I spent there.
I had a great experience speaking with one of the rare map catalogers!
