Story

H&K Inc. began as a small Korean convenience store on the corner of Kalakaua Ave and Philips Street in 1977, by Hyo Kyu and Hae Joo Lim. That convenience store has grown into one of the largest Korean owned businesses in Hawaii, Palama Supermarket. There are currently two locations on the island of Oahu, the first location in Kalihi (Central Oahu) and the second “Makaloa” location near Waikiki (East Oahu). The Kalihi location boasts 14,000 square feet of Asian products found both locally and imported from Korea. Under his strict business ethic of providing excellent quality Asian foods at an affordable price, Palama Supermarket has grown to include a second store near Waikiki. Palama Supermarket Makaloa opened in 2005 and now offers the same quality products and service in a 10,000 square foot location convenient for our east Oahu shoppers. The Makaloa location is able to provide shoppers with a truly “one stop shopping” experience with shops that provide everything from cosmetics and jewelry to services such as a hair salon and a UPS Store. With over 30 years of serving the Asian community, our customers trust the quality of Palama Supermarket's products and rely on our service to provide the freshest tastes of Korea.
