Very polite and accommodating staff. The store has a wonderful variety of kitchen knives from a range of designers. Speaking as a layperson who came to get their kitchen knives maintained, the store is incredible.
I love getting fitted for knives. The owner will lay out a bunch of knives that fit your criteria so you can try them all out. Great selection and price, highly recommended. I wish they're open one day on the weekend though. It's super hard making it from the other side of Portland after work.
Went here to purchase knives for my wife-honestly felt like I was bothering the sales girl. She seemed pre occupied - she did mention that they are there for professionals so maybe being someone who doesn’t know a ton about the expensive knives he wants to buy isn’t the right customer for them. I also went seisuke knife and it was Black Friday, they were super busy and offered way more info than an empty portland knife house. Anyhow kinda disappointed as I made a special trip there but maybe she was just busy with other stuff.
I’ve been coming here for months with a variety of knives and tools to be worked on and they always do a beautiful job. I took a hatchet in to be sharpened and the first thing I did when I got home was accidentally just myself. I didn’t even realize I was hurt until I saw blood. Excellent service.
Fantastic experience! This locally owned business was started over a decade ago. Referred to as “The Knife Guys” by their family and friends. They took a keen interest into all components of the knife from a culinary perspective. This place is literally a knife museum. There are between 500-700 knives for purchase at any given time. Come in and they will take great care in helping you pick the knife that is correct for you in the right price range. Knife sharpening- Thumbs up on pricing!! Don’t be afraid of sharp knives. Dull ones are a hazard. Home cooks on average get their knives sharpened 2-3 times a year. Professional chefs sharpen once a week. They have a 24 hour turn around time and do an amazing job. You’ll be happy you brought your knives in here.
Happened to stroll into this place unexpectedly as I was in the area. Absolutely stunning collection of knives the gentlemen who work here had alot of knowledge of the knives and even offered me to look at some. I had to resist temptation of buying one I was very close. Theyre all so cool.
Have purchased multiple knives here, staff is super knowledgeable and can talk you through options for what you need. Sharpening service has always been prompt and very good - both on knives I've purchased here and not.
I visited the store over 2 years ago, where the owner Eytan helped me pick a 210mm gyuto by Yoshikane in SKD steel. That knife is an absolute joy to and has become one of my most prized possessions, something I hope to use for the rest of my life. Thank you Eytan.
Knife sharpening was pushed back 24 hours. I recieved a call saying they needed an extra day to sharpenin my two chefs knives. Was told it would be free due to the inconvenience. Went in the next day and grab my knives and asked if I owed anything. I was quoted $20. Just a weird experience. If you're gonna offer a service free due to inconvenience perhaps write a note on my invoice next time.
Excellent knife shop and even better sharpening shop in Portland. The prices are fair no need to go to the internet, and the knife sharpening class was lots of fun. Highly recomended. Unlike many stores,t hey are not trying to sell you the most expensive stuff that you do not need.
