Progressive personal training is the absolute best training experience I have come across in the Chelsea / Flat Iron area. I'm a 61-year-old man with Parkinson's disease and the team at Progressive has really kept me on track. They coordinated my exercise regimen with my Physical Therapist and have really kept me focused on what I need to do. The team approach is really phenomenal, its like getting 3 trainers for the price of one. Each trainer keeps meticulous notes on my progress. These notes are shared between them so I always know the trainer I'm with is up to speed. Best of all James, David, and John each their unique perspective to the workout. Highly recommended!
I’ve been attending Small Group Training here a few times a week for about 4 months now, and can’t say enough good things about this gym. All four trainers are very knowledgeable and fun to workout with. They know so many different exercises, which makes each workout different than the last one. They also make sure to understand your individual needs in order to help customize the workouts to the people that are in the class. I’ve often been the only person in an SGT class, which essentially makes it a personal training session at a great price. Even if there is someone else in the class, the trainers are great about focusing on each person separately and modifying different exercises as necessary. I’ve been feeling great since coming here and highly recommend it if you are considering it!
I've been working out with these guys for over a year and they are amazing. I came in with a chronic sore neck, and with a goal of being able to keep get in shape and get strong ski legs. A year later and I almost forgot how much my neck bothered me. I feel much better and even after only 3 months of working out with them before last winter felt stronger on the ski slopes. PPT always gives me a great workout, all in a very safe and educational way. Before starting they check in with how I'm feeling, and a few times I walked in sore and walked out feeling great! They explain and demonstrate each movement and are very encouraging and fun to work with. The facilities are nice, the gym has all the equipment needed in a bright intimate space and most importantly with no waiting for something to be available. The showers and changing area are also clean and well appointed. Highly recommend.
Progressive Personal Training goes beyond the standard weight training and crunches, they develop a personalized plan that evolves with your performance and fitness level. For years, I worked-out with trainers across Equinox, New York Sports Club, and spent plenty of money at fancy private gyms but have never received the level of attention and care as I do at Progressive Personal Training. James, Antonio, and David are truly experts in this field and I believe, the best in this city. Working out at PPT has not only transformed my body but my overall health, especially when they identified that I had an undiagnosed case of exercise-induced asthma. Previous trainers just assumed I was out of shape. At PPT, workouts and trainers change so you never get bored and stay motivated. The studio is intimate and never overcrowded; the atmosphere is energetic and fun.
I worked with Progressive Personal Training for about 8 weeks to prepare for a decathlon NFL Combine style competition. They helped me with strength and agility. I worked with Antonio, James, David and Michael. Each person pushed me to be better and work harder. I would definitely recommend PPT.
After posting on Thumbtack for a personal trainer, I received a number of replies. The one that impressed me most came from James from Progressive Personal Training because he asked me many specific questions about my medical history and workout goals. After a short trial period, I signed up for a year of private sessions. I like the fact that I have three rotating trainers: James, David and John who are clearly professionals in the field. Never do I feel they’re “winging” my workouts as I have felt with other trainers, but have a specific plan for me each time I come. They keep computerized records of each workout, and frequently refer back to them. They’re very exacting in explaining how each exercise should be done and work patiently with me until I get it right. I have to say PPT’s facilities are on the modest side; they don’t have the latest high-tech equipment. But the place is kept clean and very good, inventive use is made of their equipment. For instance, I particularly like that I’m always learning new variations of standard exercises, including squats and crunches. After about 3 months, I’m quite sure I made the right decision in going with PPT. I see a definite difference: my body is stronger and more toned, and my core feels much more solid. I highly recommend PPT!
The trainers at Progressive Personal Training are great. They strike a balance between pushing you to help you achieve your goals and making feel you feel comfortable and at ease while working out. They seem to do a good job of pushing you to your limits physically without going too far, and responding really well to questions/feedback. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for personal training in the Chelsea area.
I’ve had a fantastic experience training at PPT. I started working out with them a few moths into my pregnancy and each trainer has gone above and beyond to tailor the workouts to my needs making sure I’m safe while getting fun, challenging exercise. The gym is clean, and has a really positive, encouraging vibe.
I've been going here for the past 4 months and I absolutely love it. Antonio, James, David and Greg are fantastic trainers, always pushing me to higher levels of strength with a smart eye on health/fitness. The equipment is top notch and the place is never crowded. If you are looking to get any sort of coaching in the gym, this is hands down the best place to go in NYC.
I first came to PPT two months after having hernia surgery, eager to get back to the gym but wary of injuring myself. I'd been going to the gym, on and off because I'd often simply get bored, on my own for more than 20 years, with mediocre results. I wanted to do better. After trying a couple other trainers at my own gym, who didn't seem to understand that I was a 40-something guy with a gut who'd just had surgery and not a 20-something bodybuilder training for a triathlon, I decided to try PPT. I told myself I'd go for a month or two to learn how to work out more effectively, and then I'd go back on my own. That was almost a year ago, and I've been going twice a week ever since. Why? The trainers. They're a great lot, and all of them have taught me how to work out--not just harder or for more time, but smarter and more effectively--and they've also helped me rethink things from nutrition and my eating habits to my overall health. They pay attention to my goals--I'm never going to be a swimsuit model, lose 50 pounds, or pose for a muscle magazine; that's not why I'm here. These guys know more than I do, and I learn things from them all the time.
