Pure Spice Chinese restaurant is one of those hole-in-the-wall places where you can find true authentic Chinese food at its finest. In addition to their large dim sum menu they have a daily lunch specials that allows you to order a single entree with rice, egg roll and soup.Dine in: YesTakeout: Yes
Growing up, my Filipino family always loved dim sum. This place did not disappoint and everything from the chicken feet to the shumai was cooked beautifully.
One of the best Chinese restaurant in Portland Oregon! As first generation of Hong Kong immigrants and moving here from NYC, I know my Cantonese food and in need to find a good restaurant in Portland. Tried many different places and this restaurant is a winner . You cannot go wrong with this restaurant! : you can go to Portland nursery afterwards for an after meal walk.
Incredible dim sum. Their soup dumplings are exceptional, better than Din Tai Fung and way better priced though no one is cheap these days, these guys are better than most. Super nice waitstaff too.Food: 5/5
We possibly order too much for only two people every time we go but I regret nothing. Shrimp and leek dim sum, scallop dim sum. Egg buns. Soup dumplings. Sticky fried rice, fried rice noodles. Chili oil wontons. Each time we go we try something new and haven't yet been disappointed in anything!!
I'm giving one star not for the food but for the way me and my family are treated. The food is fantastic but the waitresses are HORRENDOUS. If they think that you don't speak Chinese, they are 100% talking badly about you to other customers that do speak Chinese. When ever we say thank you they never ever say "You're welcome." One time I went to eat there with my dad. Just so you know, I am mixed. I look a little different, I get it. I'm very used to people looking at me or treating me in a weird way for it. But these waitresses made it so obvious that they were talking badly about me. They pointed directly at me when talking to other customers that spoke Chinese and would laugh among other things.. Of course they shut up as soon as my dad came back from the bathroom. These are full grown adults. Today though, we decided to eat there as a family. Immediately as soon as we walked in we we're welcomed with an attitude. We ate anyways. We usually tip on our way out at the cash register. As we were paying, the cashier and one of the waitresses started to yell at us claiming that we never leave tips which is not true at all. They weren't complaining about the tips we leave at the cash register,, they we're complaining about "table tips." Basically saying that my family has to pay double tips. They never ask of this to other people, only us.They yelled so much that the other customers started to look noticeably uncomfortable. We left a tip even though they very much did not deserve it. I don't want to set foot in there again.
Decent dim sum. Good variety of dishes. The wrapping/dough for dumplings is sometimes a bit too thick for my preference but still overall a pleasant dining experience.Food: 4/5
I wanted dim sum! And I got it at Pure Spice. Couldn’t believe I was still in Portland, this place is transcendent. So good, thank you!
So sad to write this review. I have been eating at Pure Spice since 2016 and it has gone straight downhill since the ownership change several years ago. The quality of the ingredients is atrocious and the cooks must have changed as nothing tastes the same as it used to. Today's meal has convinced me that I'll have to stop eating here. Paid $20 for garlic pea sprouts that were old, wilted and tough. All of the seafood in the dim sum shrimp & chive dumplings, scallop dumplings, etc were rubbery and tasted very "off". An hour after eating them, my daughter threw up several times and my stomach was not feeling well. Pure Spice was my favorite Chinese restaurant in Portland; heartbroken that I'll never be able enjoy those original flavors and dishes again!
The nicest staff! Dim sum was pretty delicious. We over ordered for a party of 3, couldn't help it. Really liked everything. Just would not come back for Szechuan food that's written on their whiteboard. It would be good if they didn't say it was Szechuan food. You just set that expectation, you know? There's no mala or Sichuan peppercorn so I left disappointed but had to try it.
