This is the best violin shop I have ever been to in every way. They are courteous and thoughtful in every step, from making the appointment to paying your bill at the end. The head of the workshop is extremely knowledgeable, kind and honest. He will let you know what does or does not need to be done and is not trying to make money off you. He has worked miracles with making my violin sound silky and feel easily playable. The other restorer we have worked with is also great! They treat every person like their most important client. I can't rave about them enough!
Fantastic service! Amazing Luthier and team, so sweet and helpful.
I’m very satisfied with my visit for a new bridge. Not only has the craftsmanship but Mr. Tatsuo also takes extra time to explain why certain issues happen and shares the tips for the maintenance. They do not miss a single detail on your instrument and the part needs to be taken care of. It is like bringing your pet to the animal hospital for a check-up. If the doctor finds something wrong and share with you, you can prevent further damage by addressing it sooner than later.
Excellent work, excellent service, extreme competence in a very nice and friendly atmosphere. The price for the repair work performed on my Violin was very moderate. That came as a very rare and pleasant surprise. My highest recommendation...
Well appointed violin shop and workshop, selling Stradivaris to considerably less expensive, yet quality, instruments. The standards at Rare Violins of New York are very high. They sell antique and contemporary stringed instruments violins, violas, and cellos and their bows. They also have a large and comprehensive workshop for repairs, cleanings, and adjustments, where attention to detail and respect for an instrument's history and playability is of the utmost importance. They are always guided by respect for the makers' work. Bow maker Ron Forrester is also in the workshop a few days a week to do rehairings and bow repairs, also making high quality bows to order. Appointments are highly suggested on non-busy days, if not required on busy days. Every person at Rare Violins of New York, from the workshop to front of house, are passionate and extremely knowledgable about what they do. They are all extremely honest, down-to-earth, and committed to their customers and the instruments and bows they have been entrusted to sell and repair. Founded in a modest space on 72nd street, Rare Violins of New York has moved 2 times in the past 16 years. Though the shop now operates on a larger scale than their days on 72nd street, they have managed to retain the feeling of a small, intimate shop in that they continue to operate with the personability, care, consideration, and trustworthiness of a small shop.
I always go here for adjustments. Tatsuo Imaishi has a great ear and will make your violin sound better than ever. He thinks different.
Highly professional and reliable. Their expertise is unrivaled in both fine isntrument repair and sales.
