I love this gallery. There are fascinating, creative pieces that cause you to stop and marvel. I am always impressed by new exhibits. While some modern art galleries you go to and think, "I don't get it, anyone could make that", the skill on display here is nothing short of amazing. I look at some of the ceramics, textiles, and woodworking pieces and am floored at the skill and craftsmanship. It's a small museum, but could spend 30mins to an hour here depending on how involved you get on reading the info or examining the art.
Interior is gorgeous and is a cool museum of craft art! No tickets needed and cost was zero to get in and walk around. No mask required, they will check your purses/bags and do not wheel in luggage. I did observe some folks trying to come in with luggage and were told to leave. I will definitely visit again as the art changes.
This was one of the first places I visited when I moved to DC and I had so much fun! As a museum focused on crafts, I found my time there challenging and enlightening. Your first impression of a piece felt shocking or confusing but then you would read the plaque and get insight that entirely changes your perspective of the piece. I spent a long time there around 1-1.5 hrs. Definitely worth the visit and photo ops if that is your thing.
This is an interesting little gallery that's totally worth a stop off and won't take very long. It's mostly cool little craft objects and a couple of bigger more modern light focused installations. There's this big room hung with like a mesh screen above the floor that gets a bunch of color changing lights projected onto it. Above the stairs is this very cool sort of futuristic 3d chandelier. The building is pretty nice too with tall ceilings and it's mostly all s light blue color with gold trim.
Lovely craft gallery. The museum is pretty small I made it through in <45 mins, but the collection itself is excellent -- they have a solid range of pieces from leading contemporary craft and textile artists. Curation felt somewhat haphazard, but there's only so much you can expect from a small museum. When I went the main hall was closed for an event, which was unfortunate, so come in the afternoon or call ahead to avoid that.
It is a very cool place to visit in Washington DC. They have a lot of interesting exhibits on display. Each one is very inspiring and expressive. You will love to spend an hour or so by yourself and it is free to visit. Parking is also easy. They have some street parking where you can pay using park mobile or there is a LAZ parking lot which is 3 mins walk away from this museum.
Awesome exhibits and I really enjoyed reading the story behind each piece. It's a small gallery about the size of a two story house. Took me about an hour to see everything and soak it all in. Highly recommend visiting if you have an hour to kill.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entryFree
Small 30-45min but interesting art gallery with a good variety of exhibition pieces. The wooden collection and the hanging installation were my favourites. Perfect if you have an hour to fill and are in the area.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Really cool small museum. Very eclectic and controversial art from American artists. Took about an hour to see everything. Very unique pieces with different types of canvas like pottery, fabrics, baskets, lights, recycled plastic etc.
Came on a Friday morning and was very calm experience. Felt like I had the opportunity to take my time and explore all the pieces. Gorgeous pieces that are culturally relevant! I would probably plan to see other places like we did just because it isn’t too vast of a museum.Wait timeNo waitPrice for adult entryFree
