Rick's Concrete Inc

He built me a double wide driveway, sidewalk, and large patio area. After last winter's storms/freezes, the surface layers started flaking off. He told me it was due to my putting salt on the driveway. In one small area I did use some salt, but not the entire, huge driveway. The area I used most of the salt was on the steps and sidewalk to the front door. There are no problems at all there. I think he got a bad batch of concrete. (UPDATE: 3/2018 - Soon after my original post in 2016, I hired an engineering contractor to provide me with a certified inspection of the concrete work. He reported that the damage was not due to salt but because Rick’s personnel let the concrete set up too soon without watering it. The report states it is all Rick’s fault) He is unwilling to patch the driveway or take any responsibility at all. I used him because a couple of my neighbors raved on about him. One said Rick even replaced an 8 ft section of his driveway that showed a flaw. He must have really changed to where he doesn't take responsibility for his crappy work anymore. It's still an ongoing issue. (UPDATE: 3/2018 - I filed an official complaint with BBB, providing copies of the inspection and numerous photos. They seemed to prefer to protect Rick when his only defense was “Uh uh, not my fault.” When I accused the BBB officer of showing favoritism, she said they would mediate a meeting. I readily agreed. Rick later told the BBB lady that he couldn’t do that because he said I threatened him and he was afraid. The only threat I ever made was a lawsuit. After all, I was 65 yrs old with health problems and he was a 40 something Construction worker! BBB kept from doing anything and with my medical and surgery visits, I couldn’t worry about Rick. The statute of limitations has run out so a lawsuit is no longer available - Just want to make sure I can save someone from this joker).

We cannot comment on Rick's work because we could not get him to do any. He was all smooth and helpful when he sold us the job - then once our deposit check was cashed - he was all attitude and excuses - the weather, we didn't have a survey - he couldn't get a permit, a broke dump truck. Plus the attitude that he was doing us a favor but cashing our check. A refund would take two weeks because he already bought material. it's concrete - how far in advance can you buy it? It took a fight in the front yard, a call to the police by our neighbors and the threat of Mechanic's Lien to get our money back. I only gave one star because you can't post without at least one.

Rick and his crew poured my double driveway and did my exposed aggregate patio and the patio addition. I can say he did an excellent job on my driveway and sidewalk and patio. I was very pleased with his work. the only negative (not too bad) was that I asked for a piece of the formwork to be removed and he never got around to it.

His MO is to give you one price to get the job, but then later he wants to add, and add, and add to that price. We used him twice and he did this, so we will NOT use him again.
