Supermarkets in Portland are odd and most are overpriced. Some don't even carry a consistent stock and fluctuate greatly in price from day to day. In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king. This Safeway is better than most grocery stores in town and prices are acceptable if not reasonable. The produce selection is somewhat scarce but what's there is of decent quality. The bakery department is a favorite and often has free samples of their goods for shoppers to enjoy. With a location relatively central to various different neighborhoods and an abundance of free parking this Safeway is the one I recommend to anyone looking for a supermarket.
Starbucks in this Safeway doesn't allow you to tip in the app. please fix it and if we can get some of these pre-packaged to go meals. The Vancouver stores make them.
Clean with easy access. Easy to find what I was looking for, well organized with friendly employees for when I need assistance. This store is rarely real busy, so in and out is quick and easy. The isles are never cluttered and usually clean and organizes
The location has a lot to do with the patrons and the patrons have even more to do with the employees. It is a clean store and the employee that helped us through the express line was quick and efficient. They did not have a scooter fir my son who has cancer to use while we shopped. He got frustrated and left the store only to be harassed in the parking lot.
Since the new manager has taken over, the upper parking area has been resurfaced. All alcohol, shampoo, toothpaste, OTC meds, are now in an anti-theft zone. The parking lot is now more of a cesspool than ever: worse than before. Every customer is treated like a criminal the second they walk in the door. This is a very unfriendly shopping experience. The shelves are 50% empty. I live around the corner and *NOW* I avoid this place like the plague. It isn’t worth it. Not to mention the drastic decline in their ready-to-cook meals in the refrigerated section. It’s been reduced to next to nothing. This store is on its way out. Save yourself the hassle and spend the extra 5 minutes walking to Freddies!
It's a Safeway / grocery store doesn't stand out from any other except too me they're a bit overpriced but there's a Starbucks and a bathroom. One thing I do love about Safeway is they're smaller so it's quicker to get basics. Oh & they have yummy pre made vegan sandwhiches by the deli! I also like to use their pharmacy as the staff is friendly and generally wait times aren't long. Avoid the pharmacy on Mon, Wed, Fri morning & afternoon if you hate lines as that's when they do their vaccines. Especially the downtown location.
I have a non visible disability and I take my ADA service animal in a stroller frequently at this store. Today the self check out lady named Christina. she was rude and commented “I keep telling her she needs to walk her dog” after people were commenting how cute he was in his Stroller and that really made me angry. I began telling her I do, and she just said what was your excuse for not walking him in the summer, I was so baffled and she got very condescending. I left feeling embarrassed because she said that whilst my dog was getting so much positive attention. Just because I have my dog in a stroller doesn’t mean I don’t walk him. Keep your ignorant comments to yourself it made me feel very discriminated against and embarrassed! This wasn’t the only time she had accused me of not walking my dog. She also mentioned another time how fat my dog was getting and blamed it on not getting enough exercise. Like sheesh leave my dog and I alone!
I arrived after five p.m. and was disappointed that the hot food had already been removed the from the deli cases. However, I was able to find a pre-packed ready made and tastily-seasoned meal of sirloin steak, sliced potatoes, and broccoli trees with instructions for heating up at home.
We are not impressed with the delivery service provided by Door Dash. It’s very good with the Safeway delivery trucks; they take the bags up to our covered front porch. But Door Dash just empties their car and drops it on our rainy walk.
As far as grocery stores go it's fine. Not dirty. There are a lot of fun characters that frequent the store. Has most the things someone would need for daily use if you need some obscure ingredient no the place to go. Has a pharmacy though which is convenient.
