Dr Schaffer is the best! He has been all 3 of my childrens pediatrician since they’ve been born. My kids love him and his nurses. Very patient and actually listens
I'm flabbergasted by all of the poor reviews here. My three children, including a newborn, are current patients of Dr. Schaffer and we are more than pleased. He's an old school doctor who produces results. We've had issues with severe eczema in the past and he was the only doctor including an allergist and ENT specialist, who was able to help my son find absolute relief from the itching and flare-ups. To be fair, if you are a sensitive person who needs to be handled with kid gloves and spoken to like a child, this is not the place for you. This guy has been around for years and he speaks to the parent like an adult. He has never once hurt my children or made me feel like I wasn't being heard. His staff calls in our scripts each and every time. We utilize the Kingwood location so staff interactions may vary at the Fannin office, unsure.
Dr. Schaffer- Devil in a white coat. Should’ve paid attention to my baby’s discernment but wasn’t sure if she was crying because she doesn’t like doctors or it was just him. IT WAS JUST HIM. Poor bedside manners and I hate I even went. My child would see Dr. Suell and so I called for a sick visit since they already had our insurance. He walked in, asked questions and didn’t fully listen to my answers, talking over me. Pressed on her and turned her head hard. I assumed he was just getting old AF and moving slow and stern. But no, he’s a SOB who shouldn’t be seeing children. My child felt it and now he’s gonna feel it too. I’ll be back.
This place went downhill fast after Dr. Suell left. My daughter was a patient of Dr. Suell's but after he left we tried continuing care with him but come to find out his new office no longer takes her insurance. We turned to Dr.Schaffer as a last resort for a sick visit and that was a huge mistake. We were warned that the wait would be longer than usual for her to be seen due to Dr. Schaffer being the only physician working in the office now and because he was the only Dr. seeing Dr. Suell's old patients. My daughters appointment was at 11:30 and we didn't leave until 2:30 pm the day she was seen. Dr. Schaffer has extremely poor communication skills and terrible bedside manners, he traumatized my daughter as he didn't explain anything he was doing when he assessed her, he squeezed my daughters arms to try and get her to stay still and had no patience with her. Didn't say hello and introduce himself or knock on the door before entering, he barged in and began examining my daughter. The whole staff knew Dr. Suell was going to be leaving and had a little over a month to find a new person or temp so the fact that they didn't bother to find someone new to take over is ridiculous. I think Dr. Schaffer was seeing all of Dr. Suell's patients as a last priority and seeing all of his own patients first because the wait to be seen was ridiculously long. I had an issue with my daughters pharmacy not receiving the prescription Dr. Schaffer sent for her, it took me calling the pharmacy and the doctors office back and forth for them to finally resend it, she was seen on a Friday therefore I had to wait the entire weekend to get back with them and let them know her prescription was never received by the pharmacy, the 2 ladies that work the front desk kept arguing with me instead of finding a simple solution and working with me. I will be switching providers and I highly do not recommend Dr. Schaffer, he shouldn't be working with children.
Whomever the lady is that answers the phone is rude as hell! Maritza or Maria or something. I literally had the hardest time scheduling an appointment. How? Had to get someone else to do it. Called another time and they just put you on hold without telling you. Sometimes prescriptions don’t get called in to the pharmacy. Uggghhhh. The doctor has never called me to go over lab results. I always call them trying to get results. And above everything else he pulled my babies umbilical cord off before time I think. Just ripped it off. Now I’m convinced her naval is an outie because of it. My baby had an allergic reaction to bananas. Called the office and the whomever answered tried to convince me she was ok. Ummmm hello. I took her into the office anyway and lo and behold she started reacting while we were there. An Asian doctor was on call then. Pointless. There was a bit of an aloof feeling from her. We definitely need a new recommendation.
I don’t recommend dr. Schaffer to see new born babies! I was really upset on how he treated my baby like if she was a toy the way he squeezed her stomach even made her vomit and the way he was checking her no patience at all he didn’t ask questions to see how she been this days that she’s been out the hospital!! He made me feel really upset by the treatment and have regrets on bringing my baby to this clinic!! I don’t RECOMMEND this place at all!!
Dr. Shaffer is an excellent, kind, caring, and very knowledgeable pediatrician. He takes great care of our son and his office staff are very responsive and easy to reach and they always accommodate us with last minute appointments when our baby gets sick unexpectedly. They are are always available for consultations over the phone which is helpful when we have many questions as first time parents.
I met Dr. Don in 1986 shortly after the birth of my first born son, who I named Shawn Patrick. This technology wasn't available at the time so here I am....leaving my review. I delivered at a small community hospital and Shawn suffered from birth trauma and was kept alive only by drugs and a ventilator. My doctor called Dr. Don and he came quickly to attend to my son and had him transferred to TCH. My family told me later that he followed the ambulance there and stayed with him and I am forever grateful! He was so good to me and my family and always available day and night. My son passed away the next day but we already knew he wouldn't survive at the time of his birth. In 1987 we had our 2nd child, a very healthy boy that he took wonderful care of and I trusted him with his life. I still recommend him to everyone I can! My sister was so impressed with him during my experience that she chose him for her first child who was born with a very serious heart disease. He took great care of him until his heart transplant at age 23.which went great! Our entire family owes him everything so the least I could do is leave this review. Thank you!!
Dr. Schaffer has been our pediatrician since 2015. He is knowledgeable and friendly. Besides Dr. Don, what keeps us coming back is his staff. The nurse always returns calls and they always get the kids in for same day sick appointments. His after hours call center is the absolute best though! The last 2 times I’ve called for a doctor after hours, my calls have been returned in under 5 minutes! We love Dr. Don and Pediatrics of Greater Houston!
Established care with Dr Schaffer today and I’m so grateful to have found him for our daughter. Our appt was easy and he has a great bedside matter.
