My wife and I had an experience of a lifetime visiting the Shrine of the Black Madonna! I think every Ancient African should take their entire family to learn about our Heritage and Culture.
The true history of a people, the Shrine Of The Black Madonna bookstore is the largest African/African American bookstore in America. Here you will find great historic work, by our Black Master Teachers. Check out the African history class, every Saturday at 1:30 PM. The African history class is free to the public. The Shrine of The Black Madonna is a major organization in the West End. Our former Mayor, a so call black man were arrangeing regeniforication tours in the West End. Tours where anybody but black people suppose to come and take property from black people. Now, the West End area is supposed to be a keen area. Instead of someone taking an 80 year old black woman house away from her the West End, we will work to help this 80 year old black woman keep her house. After 65 years of legal Jim Crow, of BLACK people living in the West End, I see that the city of Atlanta decided to put Vista along I-20, the exit leading into the West End. See my people, this is the first indication that you got predators and rats. This is your first indication that the local government has organized themselves to steal your real estate properties. Usually they attempt to enter areas they feel will give the less resistance. So this is always the black community or better yet the Native people. We know what happened to the Native people. The native were killed for their land and the remainder were put on reservations. Back in the day, now the black man, our local government just come into his house and kill everybody in the house, this process is referred to as lynching. American is only doing what it knows best. See, as long as we have bad politics in our community we will never ever, never control one destiny. Everytime one group runs out of real estate properties, he goes and steal the black man real estate properties. This process will never end until one group fail to exist. The Shrine of the Black MaDonna is concerned about their neighbors well being.
Luv visiting the center. They offer black history classes every Saturday from 1:30-3:30. It's extremely informative and educational. Live music. Come out as a family or group and I assure you that you will enjoy it.
A beautiful, Black owned space that is excellent for conferences as well small gatherings. Also has a fantastic bookstore with all kinds of wonderful spiritual items! A must- visit in the West End!
I attended service at this church this past Sunday and was impressed and uplifted. I wish I had been exposed to it years ago. The history is one I feel would have been good for me. Thank You my sister Minnie Greene for taking me there. I will go again when I return to Atlanta .
the owner is a nice lady who took time to assess my needs then pointed me in the right direction. She had what I needed and shared a wonderful story with me. I'll let her tell it bc I dont want to ruin it but yes, I recommend this book store
This place used to have books galore, now they have a sprinkle. But the exhibits are worth going for. I used to live in the West End of Atlanta. That was my go to spot for all the cultural communities in the Atlanta area. Now it's just two that are there...Shrine of the Black Madonna and the Hebrew Israelite Community of Ben Ammi. I miss those days between 1998 and 2005. Cities don't have cultural areas for people of African descent anymore.
I recently moved here from Houston, Texas and, I visited the Black Holocaust Exhibit a few years ago it was truly an education! The staff there were warm and welcoming! I look forward to the same type of experience here....
Located in the historic WestEnd the Shrine of the Black Madonna cultural center is a jewel of a place from scents, to sights and sounds they've got it... Along with excellent customer service and reasonable prices I'd recommended anyone shopping for anything cultural to give them the opportunity to meet your demand...
Had a Marcus Garvey festival there with vendors and the space is nice with this African celebration was beautiful.
