We opened a brand new surgical center in the Chicago area and Ash was a great help every step of the way. Not only did he save us money compared to the new quotes we got, he made sure that we didn't waste money on equipment we didn't need. He offered us options from several manufacturers and his advice never seemed pushy, he only cared that we chose the best option for our center. He felt more like a consultant than a salesperson which helped the whole process go so much more smoothly. Happily, and somewhat surprisingly (compared to estimates we received from the manufacturers themselves), Soma delivered everything in a timely fashion and even installed the big stuff (sterilizer, OR lights, anesthesia machines) so we didn't have to hire someone else to do it. Overall, working with Soma was a more positive experience than I could've hoped for and Ash will definitely be the first person we call for surgical equipment. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Soma for any new construction projects.

Not even really sure where to start. Building an ASC is already a difficult task. We chose Soma based on a recommendation from a Distributor from Smith & Nephew Endoscopy. It turns out that the person who recommended them had never directly worked with Soma but had heard good things. Based on Soma being relatively close in CT, we went with them over other equipment vendors.
Months prior to needing the equipment, we ordered the essentials needed for construction. In particular, our builders asked for the surgical lights and the washer decontaminator so we could build those in to the construction schedule. We put in a PO and thought we were fine based on the 4 week lead time Soma said it needed.
Soma apparently never procured the equipment and was found scrambling to obtain it having never communicated with us. The day it was to be delivered, Soma told us that they cannot get the equipment (particulary lights and a washer). We had our electrician, plumbers, etc all lined up. We were told to expect a one week delay. the next week, the smae thing. No communication and my builders and their subs sitting around with nothing to do and costs piling up. Soma could not be reached and when the next day came and went, they told us the lights had to be changed out to a new company and that company was in Canada and could deliver and install the lights the next week. Soma never providfed a new template for the steel mounting plate, and more importantnly, never communicated or arranged for the installation. Soma then had the nerve to blame the Canadian company who never received any comunnication from Soma!
I personally spent the better part of that day speaking with the canadian company and begging them to deliver the lights at this critical time (inspections were happening the following week). they were kind enough to agree, yet once again, Soma never arranged for the installation and vblamed the Canadian company yet again.
Furthermore, Soma made a mistake with the washer and never communicated with the builders regarding the electrical needed. Soma continually blamed others for thei lack of organization and communication. Smith and Nephew was embarrassed by their recommendation and will not be recommending them again.
The sterilizers were another story all together. Two sterilizers were ordered 2 months prior, yet we found out the day they were to delivered and installed that they never left the storage facility because "one" had "failed" testing. The DAY of the delivery?
They then had to order steam generators for the sterilizers which delayed at least another week. On top of that, they only then delivered one which the next day after installed and tested, emitted steam into the room, enough to set off the fire alarm. I am quite certain they never had the other sterilizer. In fact, to this day, the second sterilizer has still not arrived, again with no communication regarding the delay of the delivery.
The 6 stretchers were late over 2 weeks, and the list goes on and on.
I asked the sales person what happened and all he could do is admit that they dropped the ball. I am dumbfounded because they seem to have dropped every ball. One or two snafus on a large order I get, but nearly every aspect of this transaction was highly unprofessional and continues to be so.
I called the head of sales who also admitted their mistakes but could not answer why. Not once did they offer and concessions. Finally, i decided to debrief this with the owner, who despite two emails and voice mails, has still not called. I am beginning to believe that this company simply wants to make a sale rather than provide the service required in this industry.
Overall an awful experience. the equipment is now in and working well, but the wasted time, effort, stress and costs will never be recovered. the fact that the sales manager, sales rep and the owner all do not care to make this right are disappointing and concerning. Search elsewhere for a reputable vendor.

Our equipment planner / consultant had recommended using soma technology for our new surgery center in Redmond. I am not only impressed with the quality of equipment shipped but also their sales people and technical staff are very helpful. There was a shipping damage on one of the casters for a surgical table, this was replaced and repaired within 2 days of notifying them of the issue. I will recommend Soma Technology to any new surgery center or hospital that is looking to set up equipment at reasonable prices.

Edit: So they actually responded to my review by writing their own review of themselves and then thanking themselves for the review. The person who wrote that once told me that I needed to be sarcastic to survive in that work environment so take that review with a grain of salt on top of the fact that they ACTUALLY responded to this review. The fact they responded confirms their pettiness. If I were a competent owner of a company, I would never take the time to bother with reviews and would rather focus on producing the best product possible. If they have enough time to waste responding to this, then they have enough time to improve their company and their products. This company took away my confidence and my family had to help me rebuild it. I still had some doubts about myself until I saw their response today and realized that they are exactly as petty as I thought. I should have trusted my gut and quit, but fortunately they fired me anyways. Thank you Soma for putting me through hell, because I am now stronger for surviving your trials.

Never Trust Someone with a Limp Handshake
My time at Soma Technology was short-lived as I was fired in the middle of the fourth week. The day after I returned from being sick with food poisoning. While taking a sick day in the first year does not look good to bosses, I do not believe this is why I was fired. However, I did feel weak that day and my mind wasn't exactly in the best place. I got myself confused over a few things and went to ask about them to my boss. He claimed to me that I was unorganized (not true, because I sorted the extremely disorganized files in the back and kept a neat work environment). He told me I made ridiculous excuses (also not true, because I admitted when I made a mistake and expressed personal fault numerous times).
He said he came to the conclusion that he could not continue checking on me, which is dubious because all I would do is ask simple questions and he'd go on and on repeating himself, making it out to be a bigger issue than necessary. He also said I wasn’t understanding the work, which I could see him thinking. I didn’t feel comfortable with the work and he did not take the time to help me feel comfortable with it. He was too busy taking longer than necessary lunch breaks, coming in late and talking to coworkers, but never me though.
Essentially, this boss never tried to get to know me or the kind of worker I was. If anything, he came off like I had no significance. He never talked to me other than work related issues, his lunch group actively excluded me and when I tried to make some attempt to get to know him, he shut me down. His attitude definitely spread to the other workers because they also became increasingly awkward and unfriendly, with the exception of a select few. I felt extremely uncomfortable in the work environment there and I felt set up to fail because people did not like me. I never got any word of my progress from my boss, neither negative or positive and I always felt like I was drifting. By the end of my time at this company, I felt ostracized to the point that it was distracting me from my work. Even the woman behind me was getting a worse attitude so I always felt the problem was looking at my back.
I worked hard and put in a lot of effort in the time I was there and it definitely could’ve worked, but the work environment was not a fit for me as the work personalities there were shallow. The boss did not like me and obviously he can’t fire me for only his feelings. In my last moments with this company he told me what he perceived were my problems and rather than trying to figure out a way to make it work, he told me he’d have to let me go. I asked him if I was fired, he responded, I’m letting you go. He couldn’t say the words, “you’re fired”. That type of coward is someone you’d expect would have a weak handshake and considering he gave me one in the interview, this end result is not a surprise.

I have been buying from soma technology for over 10 years now . I have found their surgical equipment and biomedical services to be excellent. They have helped my centers with biomed parts and have saved me from cancelling cases.
Thank you and keep up the good work.
