Highly recommend. Tasting menu had great variety of dishes and styles. Korean influenced but everything balanced and delicious. Really nice wine list and drinks. Awesome details with dishware and cutlery. And Sean really made our experience awesome - he's the best!
Soogil offers a prix fixe chef's tasting menu highlighting modern Korean cuisine with French influences. Great food and great ambiance, worth a visit / good for date night! We came as two, so we were able to try all of their dishes! The highlights for me were the beef wellington worth the supplement! and the foie gras, which is their signature dish. The uni bowl was underwhelming; I would recommend skipping that supplement. Some of the dishes were also on the saltier side for my partner but was OK for me. I would say the best modern Korean restaurants in NYC. Chef’s tasting menu was very delicious!! I casually visit the place and satisfied every time. I recommend this place to friends/family who’d like to try modern and delicious Korean-French food. And thanks to all kind staff Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: YesTakeout: YesDelivery: Yes
@lydieats Delicious tasting menu from such an unexpected address. Price range is totally reasonable too, esp with the crazy inflation going on these days Starts off with a decadent lil bite. Tuna tartare with crème fraîche in a potato & seaweed shell, topped with ossetra caviar. Lots of flavor for sth so cute Loved the honeynut squash soup, felt warm and cozy. Scallop was cooked to perfection and the small islands of squash and apple added a great layer of sweetness. Next is octopus served in two ways, fried and seared, with sunchoke on the bottom!! The star of the show is the nurungji foie gras that comes with a sizzling audio. Rice has an amazing scorched exterior and tastes rly good but I did find the liver to be a tad rubbery. Before the Wagyu you get a smoll potato-shaped bread and ngl this was my fav It has this wonderful chewy texture with a creamy inside that does wonders. Steak is very tender and excellent. They do offer Wellington as a supplement but I would honestly stick with the Wagyu. Desserts are on point You have a fruity option with the mango sorbet. BUT my ref would be the churro “corn sticks” on the menu but rly tastes like churros JENGA tower. The black sesame gelato is nutty and rich just the way I like.
Soogil is a top notch restaurant. The food is creative and delicious. The presentation is wonderful and the vibe of whole place is hip and relaxed. Our server, Sean, made our night really special.
Fantastic food and service! Having dined at Daniel a couple times and Korean-American, was very intrigued to try cuisine by a Korean chef that also worked the Daniel kitchen. Perfection all around. Cozy atmosphere and ambiance. Tasting menu was a wonderful combination of delicious flavors, textures, and fresh, quality ingredients. Very hard to decide which we liked best. Between 2 people, we tried everything on the menu, including the uni bowl with caviar and truffle topping on the foie gras shaved at the table by the chef!, which was served in a dolsot bibimbap style. The bread was so, so good, like a perfect marriage between bread and duk. We're not big dessert people but both were so good, we finished it all - the jenga dessert came with the creamiest black Sesame Gelato and crunchy yet chewy dough sticks and the mango sorbet was super refreshing, smooth, and fruity not icey with the most delicious vanilla bean mascarpone cream and meringue. The galbi wagyu was melt in your mouth tender and the beef wellington was perfectly made at the best temp medium rare. Octopus was genius, partly served fried with a light, crispy batter and also braised jajiang style. 10/10 experience, highly recommend. Looking forward to visiting again, especially to try spring/summer tasting menu. Servers were courteous and humorous, not stiff and impersonal - added to a great experience. Left feeling full and satiated, courses were space out and served perfectly in tkme with appetite. In my personal top 5!
NOTE: They only do tasting menu now and they DONT price their menu. The bill comes out to be 320 for 2 people. So def not a 2$ restaurant. The food there is pretty decent and service is nice but I still think it’s a bit overpriced based on the quality versus price. But in general it’s really nice experience.
We sat down and I didn’t really realize that it was tasting menu only. That’s fine, I’m used to tasting menus. We started w tuna tartare / caviar, followed by Arctic char, scallops, foie gras, uni supplement, beef Wellington / kalbi steak and dessert mango sorbet and black sesame ice cream. I think the only dishes I enjoyed were scallops and steak kalbi but everything else was missing something in terms of flavor. The mango sorbet was good. I came expecting some sort of Korean fusion but didn’t really get any. I left pretty hungry for a tasting menu as well. This wasn’t cheap and I think they could’ve given us more in terms of the mains. Overall, has potential but could also use some improvement.
Delicious & artfully presented!! Every ingredient is fresh & juicy. Melted in my mouth… very good price for the quality. Bandy our waiter is the best. Thanks Soogil!
A great little spot by the East Village. Loved the food here. Nice presentation and everything tasted good. I’d recommend this for like a date night. The service was nice and efficient.
