The store has all the essential hardware items you might need. Plumbing, electrical, paint, garden supplies, and about everything else. It’s an old school hardware store that even has a large pocket knife display case with real knives for sale.Prices were reasonable and service was excellent. Highly recommended.
Great neighborhood hardware store, the kind I used to go to with my dad before the big box stores pushed so many out. The kind of place you go to for 1 thing and then somehow leave with 5 other things. They are always well staffed and their people are knowledgeable, helpful and enjoyable. I always try to look here first for what I need. They have “nearly” everything and I need, and I feel good about supporting a local small business anytime I can.
I was just through town from out of state to see friends that live in Houston. We were helping with a home project and needed a few minor supplies and were close to this store. I absolutely love independent small hardware stores like this!! Have everything, staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They even have a shop cat! You can’t beat places like these, head here before going to the big box stores and you’ll be very pleasantly surprised.
Southland Do It Best Hardware on Westheimer is one of my favorite independently owned hardware stores in Houston. I really like their selection of pocket knives. They have a wide range of products for all the building trades. You can buy 1/4 pound of nails without having to buy a whole one pound box. They sell chain by the foot. There is a sharpening service for saws, knives, garden tools, scissors, etc. Prices are reasonable. You can walk into the store and find what you need in a few minutes without having to walk a mile. Store associates are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Organized store, helpful staff. Clay went above and beyond in helping me fortify a wobbly manhasset stand. This is The Montrose hardware store.
Great hardware store! I was looking for some toilet plumbing, in which Lowe's & Walmart didn't have at that time. They had it and it fit perfectly for my need. The price is reasonable/even cheaper than big chain store. The staff was really helpful. I should have gone here first instead of the big store.
Southland advertises that you can find many things there - the key there is in y-o-u. They are NOT helpful. There were three people in the front, and I asked them all where I could find a replacement for the part I brought in — a simple pointing and “in the back” was all I got. Almost zero effort on their part. I did not find the part, but the folks at U-Plumb-It were very helpful as an alternative.
Worst return experience. My husband tried to return a cordless battery operated Black and Decker blower that he bought for my handicapped mother for Christmas. The blower unfortunately did not hold a charge despite our troubleshooting the issue. He went to return it with receipt and box/materials and was told that it was not "their problem and we needed to take it up with Black and Decker". I have never had an experience where I tried to return a defective product to the merchant I purchased it through within their return policy and was rejected in such a rude and unprofessional manner. We try to support the independent little guys over the big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot but sadly we will never go to Southland again. Very disappointed that they would treat a customer like this without any attempt to make the situation right both from the cashier and manager.
Best little hardware store in Houston. True to their motto, it's "The store that has ALMOST everything".
This place is an institution. Free popcorn, like any good hardware store should have. Low on internal signage, so it might seem like a daunting layout, but there are plenty of well informed staff to help you find what you're looking for. PRO TIP : Take advantage of free ship to store from the Ace Hardware website.
