Beautiful bridge that is a bit ragged but astounding. The counterweight is scary at the far side and the fact you drive under it blows my mind. Impressive architectural features with the rivets and you can see the locks from the foot bridge on the side. The horn is loud so be forewarned if your near it when it sounds.
One of the trippiest bridges I know. A miracle that it works at all, since the design is somewhat eccentric and the last maintenance appears to have been performed circa 1965. Out of the way, definitely not on the tourist track, but notable for bridge freaks like me.
They need to replace this bridge entirely. The approach and landing in both directions continuously sinks.
This bridge is always up!The only beneficial thing about it, is that you can walk over the bridge on the far right side.
It's a bridge! Does indeed follow the definition of a bridge. Unless it's up for boats to pass. Then it doesn't bridge very well. Minus two stars for boats coming through when I'm in a hurry, but three stars for not collapsing or catching fire.
Scary to cross it because of big boulders in the center and water on either side.
If you like being stuck in your car with no way to turn around and take an alternate route, then look no further! So plan ahead, make a LONG Spotify playlist and let it rip! This is the best place to sit... and sit... and sit in your car, hands down!
Work being done right now. One lane open, fixing that right lane headed out, where road & bridge meet. Caught the bridge at 2A.M. Was not a long wait. Also something is being done with center grassy area. NO MORE walking or jogging up the middle.
Spooky! The lanes are tiny and this bridge will definitely give you an eerie vibe. Note: You can not use this bridge on foot, there are strict no pedestrian rules. But bicycles are welcome, I just would not recommend it because there are no bicycle lanes. Another common thing is that the bridge goes up a lot so plan on sitting for a bit, depending on when you go over it. I can see this bridge from my house so I can say it's popular. People drive over it all day and all night.
This bridge can be crossed as a pedestrian if you use the correct route. There are walkways beside the outside lanes of traffic, protected by a double guardrail and an eight foot tall chain link fence. That being said, I think people's perception of time might get a little skewed behind the wheel because that is a swift moving bridge. Sometimes it's up, but most of the time it's down and never seems to hold me up. It is covering an operating canal fed from the Mississippi River. Now something that always holds me up, Every Single Time I Try To Get At Least To Franklin Ave, the ****ing train is crossing Saint Claude Ave. It's to the point where I don't ever take St. Claude, EVER. I know I'm rambling on now, but watching the captains steer the tugboats with the double long, double wide barges is nothing short of watching a live miracle.
