Story

St. John - St. Matthew-Emanuel Lutheran Church is a diverse, inclusive expression of three worshipping communities who have joined to serve the Park Slope/South Slope neighborhood with God's Word and Sacrament. As a Reconciling-in-Christ congregation, we affirm gay and lesbian persons, and welcome all to full participation in the life of this church, just as Christ has welcomed us.

Mission

St. John-St. Matthew-Emanuel Lutheran Church, with its rich, diverse history, is a community of baptized people which finds joyful unity in the grace of God the Father, the love of Jesus Christ, and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Through Word and Sacrament, we are empowered to share the Gospel, to love one another, and to serve God, our congregation and our community with our diverse talents and resources. We are guided by the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions in all that we do. We are committed to Christian education. We welcome all into our midst, just as Christ has welcomed us. We will meet the challenges that the future holds, confident that God will direct and guide us. (Adopted June 4, 1989.)
