Wow! The drip coffee was smooth, full depth of flavor, and no bitter after taste. My friend said the espresso was excellent as well. Food options were limited but the bagel and herb cheese schmear was delicious! Generous portion of cream cheese, bagel toasted, and soft with a lovely crunch. No outdoor seating, there were a few tables inside, but certainly a place to go for a quality cup of coffee.
Quite disappointed after a quick visit and I just thought this place is overrated. The soy latte I got was burning hot, and tastes like hot soy milk without a hint of the aroma of coffee. The English muffin is also very plain and flavorless. Unfortunately it's unlikely that I will return.
Edit** I think new owner is starting to figure our supply/demand, there’s bagels and pastries lasting a bit longer! Was an amazing coffee shop, a little gem! Don’t get me wrong, the coffee is still good and organic. But the old owner left. No longer serving $2 day old pastries good luck at getting a pastry at all, they sell out by 10am. The bagels are gone by noon. Grumpy hour was shortened to one hour only, and no more free coffee refills. They always run out of egg/cheese for their bagels and don’t keep any sandwiches in the fridge anymore. The baristas are amazing but the business changed the best things about the shop.
Excellent coffee experience, found the coffees less acid with a nice dark complex taste. Wide selection of coffees to choose from. Driving south across the bridge on a foggy rainy day is an excellent side benefit of visiting this coffee shop
Great service and delicious coffee. Prices are reasonable and they do offer quite a lot of yummy looking pastries and food options.
Great local option for tasty coffee and a bag of beans. They've scaled down their operation since the pandemic but we're never disappointed.
Love the actual coffee and food. Never would take away from a local business for that. The customer service is severely lacking since covid. The woman on weekends has consistently been rude. We have thoroughly enjoyed the people behind the counter when we have gone in before covid so we know there are lovely individuals employed there. But this one woman has been rude without fail every time we have ordered. It really limits our desire to be much more regular patrons. But as I said, definitely get a bagel sandwich when they are back and take in the beautiful mural/local products they tend to stock on their shelves. They are dog friendly and truly a delightful way to kill time.
This was a warm, comfortable neighborhood cafe with plenty of tables to sit around and is dog friendly to friendly dogs. The coffee is still excellent with at least one new variety every day. This company is under new management and they were playing edgy music, heavy metal and punk music. But the new management has now started playing more cafe friendly music such as soft jazz. The music atmosphere has improved while you are enjoying your coffee.
The coffee is amazing. There was confusion around my coffee subscription purchase. The coffee is amazing and I was so excited to get a three-month subscription for my friend for Christmas. When I placed the order my online account said the coffee would not be ready until February 28th. Additionally, I thought I was prepaying for 3 months of coffee beans, one bag every 4 weeks for 3 months, this is how it was worded on the website as a 'gift'. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I reached out to the owner to see if this could be done and was met with a very resounding no. She said the coffee was ready for pickup and had been ready since January. I'm not sure how well the beans will hold up but hopefully, the three months of beans that my boyfriend is getting that are now three weeks old will be great for months to come. The owner responded to me to let me know she purchased St. Johns Coffee a little over a year ago and the subscription service/website were inherited. She explained that it might need some additional details and steps on her end and she'd look into it. I greatly appreciate her willingness to review the website and get to the bottom of my frustrations. I would say it seems like things are incredibly busy and hectic over at St. John's Coffee and it might take the owner some time to respond, but be patient she will respond and she will try to make it right. If you're in the Portland area I'd recommend hopping over to do a hike, check out St. John's bridge and then check out St. John's for an incredible cup of coffee and buy a bag of beans. Their coffee tastes great for weeks.
I love this coffee shop. I am so thankful that there are still small businesses out there doing what they can to protect their staff and honor the pandemic we're facing. The have been changes as the shop changed hands but I think they have only improved the shop as they were learning what works and what doesn't. The coffee has only gotten better too!! And shame on Carl for giving another small business a one star for being unable to pay a bill during the heat of the pandemic. Bad form sir.
